Steam failed to initialize Max Payne 3

I get an error saying Steam failed to initialize, please verify that the Steam Client is running and try again. Anyone know how to fix this?

No but I am also having the same problem on my steam deck. I think we will need to go back to an old version of proton.

i had the same problem,
force it to run on proton 8-3

Proton experimental (in compability mode) fixed it for me.

I have the same issue in my Linux PC. Tried on my windows laptop and got the same error, but in windows I fixed by clearing the download cache and reinstalling.
I tried the same in Linux, but the problem remains, charging proton version didn't help. Same thing with GTA 5. Both games used to run perfectly.
I only play MP3 and GTA5 in offline mode. Having to resort to alternative ways just to play the games you paid for is ridiculous. I'm tired of the developer's launcher updates getting in the way and breaking things that are working fine.

I agree, I just want to play the game without any of these issues.
