Max Payne 3

Max Payne 3

They did Max's girl dirty..
In Max Payne 2 Mona Sax is a key player and driving factor for Max's character development. She saves his life twice while risking her own. Gave Max Payne complete clarity. Mona and Max genuinely loved each other. She chose Max over her main goal. AND on the HARDEST difficulty Max and Mona have their happy ending. Even with the other timeline ending because of Mona, Max declares he's reborn which signifies his life begins anew and life feels active again.

Did you FORGET about "omnia vincit amor" CLEARLY you didn't because of Raul Passos and Giovanna Taveres love story arc. Max Payne 3 should have been titled "Raul Passos: Max Payne Amores Protector".

Now as much I loved Max Payne 3, rockstar really failed with their interpretation of Mona Sax: Max dismisses(tries to shrug it off as "insanity" also known as impulsive & compulsive behavior induced by grief/trauma) this relationship and describes it as "I still hadn't forgiven myself for the Mona business, but I knew that was just grief, the insanity that comes with losing the life you had built." Now maybe this is just Max being imperfect and not appreciating what Mona did/meant for/to him which does make him more of a realistic character, but If Mona was a real character in Max Payne 3, Max would NEVER belittle Mona like he does, he would FALL IN LOVE WITH HER AGAIN and MOST of Max Payne 3 would be OBSOLETE as Max & Mona would start a life with each other & try to grow old with each other.. The BIGGEST FAILURE on rockstars part was Max reflecting over Valerie Winterson death with "It was her or Mona, and I made a very bad call. This was one decision of mine I buried deeper than all the others." Like how stupid or ignorant do you have to be to even believe that load of bullcrap. Valerie Winterson only attacked and focused Mona because of Vlad, because Vlad got shot by Mona after she rejected his offer to be his lover/queen, Winterson then unknowingly that Vlad proposed to Mona, hunts Mona down using the phrase "You're nothing but a one-armed bandit." to pin the blame on Mona for Vlad's murders, but really it's for hurting Vladimir Lem(Winterson lover). Valerie Winterson agreed to MURDER both Sax and Payne for Vlad AND to betray the NYPD. It was not Max's fault for Winterson's downfall, her role as a double agent for VLAD ultimately cost her life. So to whichever rockstar dev that had their head up their own ♥♥♥ you REALLY failed with Max's relationships from the 2nd game in Max Payne 3. Now granted rockstars writing team could have purposely made Max act like this to add a flaw in his character, but without giving too much benefit of the doubt they never set up these "character flaws" well enough, it really just feels like they never played or cared for Max Payne 2 as they did for 1 and you can tell by the story writing in 3.

I do love the easter egg with Hotel Mona, it gives me head canon that Mona is still well and kicking, enjoying her retirement as a resort chain chairperson/founder.

But rockstar's creative writing team really did not understand Max Payne 2's whole story or how it matched with the first game; it feels like it was explained to them by scattered devs(Max Payne 1&2) and they(rockstar) only cared for the "main" plot. Rockstar did a amazing job continuing the neo-noir with parody(comedy), and Max Payne 3's plot is beautifully segued from Max Payne's 1 and 2 story of "secret" groups and their activities.

Rockstar really want to make Max Payne 3 realistic, and it shows, but for all the billions of deaths you forced on Max could have you added something surreal for Max. *Ending Spoiler ALERT* I know you already let Max walk off into the beautiful sunset, which we all knows that's far from what would realistically happen to Payne, but I think you could have done the older games a better service and given returning players some way better fan service.

I was hoping that Max Payne 3 had a secret ending; with Max relaxing at Mona's hotel, now estranged individuals they meet again as "enlightened" individuals, and as you can see the spark of their love reignite the game ends.
Until Mona gets some well deserved respect, Ill be calling this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t out to rockstar whenever I can.
With how rockstar handle Max Payne 2's digital distribution, especially on steam. Id say Rockstar should be obligated to update Max Payne 3 with dlc for single-player. Even if they would lose money, Rockstar should respect & owe it to the Max Payne franchise.

This game is over 8 years old, they are unlikely to resume development on this now. More likely to see Max Payne 4.

Hello! Sorry for responding just now, but I'm not really practical with the Steam Community (in fact, it's the first time I write a comment, so please be patient with my English :) )
I found an interesting advertisement sign for Mona Hotel that can help understand the whole deal. It is situated in the train station in the last level of the game, you can spot it on the sides of the control office.
The sign says:

Hotel Mona
Indulge yourself at Sao Paulo's most romantic hotel.
Where every night is a night to remember.

Then it goes on with a frase in the Latin language, written in small characters
"Sed ut perspiciatis unde omnis iste natus error sit voluptatem accusantium doloremque laudantium, totam rem aperiam, eaque ipsa quae ab illo inventore veritatis et quasi architecto beatae vitae dicta sunt explicabo."

As soon as I read it I found it somehow familiar. A small google search later, I found it comes from "De Officiis" of Cicero -wiki link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Officiis -
a good translation would be:

"But in order for you to see where all this error of those who accuse pleasure and praise pain has arisen, I will clarify the whole matter and explain the ideas expressed by that discoverer of truth and I would say architect of happiness in life."

This is the beginning of a chapter in the first book of "De Officis" where Cicero tries to explain philosophically the interdependent relationship between pain and pleasure.

Not only this is a great classical reference I wouldn't ever have thought to find in this videogame, but also can give us an higher point of view on every relationship in Max Payne's life: with Michelle and Rose (his original family), with his own work, with Mona, with alcohol, with (drugs) painkillers...

Well done to Rockstar for what I would consider a sophisticated egg in the Easter egg.

Hope I've been useful.
