21:9 Aspect Ratio Fix?

I'm trying to help my friend fix his Max Payne 3 as he is playing for the first time on his ultrawide monitor. The screen vertically crops or shrinks when in cutscenes but is perfectly normal during gameplay. Apparently a guy made a mod to fix it awhile ago, but some say it contains a pretty hefty virus. Anyone have a fix?
