Join Failed: Incompatible Data

So i've recently tried to get back into the multiplayer of this game. Whenever I try to play with friends i'm always haunted by this error.

Here are all the fixes i've tried:
Verifying game files
Restarting the game
Backing out of multiplayer, then back in
Completely re-installing the game
Completely re-installing Social Club (And all social club related games and files)
Restarting my PC

These are all the fixes i've tried that i've found online. Rockstart Support has been completely unresponsive and i've mostly run out of options. I'm not sure on what to do next. I'd be open to any new fixes or suggestions.

It's rare that I'm able to go online on my first attempt. There's no way to fix these multiple issues.

Yes I have, this results in them getting the error. Only when they try to join me though.

Sometimes I get disconnected due to 'sync problems' or 'connection problems', but that error you mention I never got.

Is it possible you and your friends are running different versions of Social Club, hence the incompatibility?

From what I've seen, this is not the case. In very rare cases I have gotten into multiplayer games with my friends. Also on multiple occasions now i've completely reinstalled social club. So I can say with certainty that I have the correct version of social club installed.

I had that Problem playing on Xbox also and occasionally here on pc.

Its like you enter a pseudo lobby, you can see other players, if they are friends, but you will never connect.

Usually maxs multiplayer menus are a little different. In any case - usually a reboot solves the problem

Social club usually forces you to update so dont think that.

Sync error could be the server, or it could be at your end, the beginnings of the much more fatal conenction problems

Sync error you can usually rejoin a game.

Connection problems means the game host has blackballed your ip and no way are you getting back in that game without a different ip or the game host leaves.

With sync/connection problems I usually close the game and then restart it. This usually works. Apparently Rockstar's sole advice to the 'Incompatible data' error is also resetting...

I believe the sync/connection issues may be somewhat region-related, because I've had matches where I got them at the same time as a friend also in Europe.

I actually don't know of anyone who doesn't experience multiplayer issues with this game.

For now completely restarting the game seems to be the most effective solution. But it still doesn't let me play half the times I want to. There are some times where it doesn't work at all. In lack of there being any clear-cut way to fix this error i'll set a solution and close this disscussion.

This happened to me all the time yesterday, when I tried to join thru invite, but when I created my own session and then invite someone, it was good.
