Fable - The Lost Chapters

Fable: TLC not working with Window 8.1 :(
I played the heck out of this game a couple of months ago, but I had to restore my computer and I just downloaded the game again, I used to play on Windows 8 and now I have Windows 8.1
The game will launch, It'll play the Loinhead Studios and Microsoft bit, and the intro, but once its supposed to be at the main menu it stops and says there is an error and needs to close. When I launch the game again it recommends safe mode and that still doesn't work. I have an HP Pavilion G6, with an AMD Radeon Vision A6 dual-core proc., 6gigs of RAM, no dedicated graphics. Help me please :(

Try running in compatability mode for win7, xp or vista, just right click on exe and select ' run in compatability for.....'
Where do I find that file exactly?
Nevermind...apparently giving my computer a clean bootup was all it needed
And it seems I spoke too soon. So where do I find the file you were talking about? lol

Right click on the game in your steam library, click properties, local files, browse local files, look for fable, right click and select properties, then click on compatibility and select another windows version then click ' apply' and launch the game.......it worked for me.

Worked for me too! Thanks!
Thank you very much! It works perfectly for me!
Well Santa I didn't see any specific issues with Windows 8.1 when it came to playing Fable so I posted my own
Actually Roseclear's solution helped me and a few friends out with a lot of games experiencing problems with 8.1. All my steam games run faster now, I thought it was my computer! Thank you Roseclear, and I'll make sure in the future I do a little more research Santa :)

Reviving the post here. I recently got Fable: TLC and it crashes after the intro bits, just as the original post mentioned. I tried running in compatibility mode but it does not work. Which Windows should I select?

Windows 8 Fable: The Lost Chapters FIX.
Okay so like so many of you I had the issue of the game crashing, after the opening cinematic. There was a rather simple fix to this. Now keep in mind, I am running Windows 8: Home edition. I refuse to update to 8.1 because games seem to stop working for it.

First, go into your game library from the Steam Application.
Second, click properties.
Third, Click the Local Files tab
Fourth, Verify Game Files
Fifth, reboot your system, and open steam, click Fable, and try playing.

This is what I did. I did not go in and mess with the compatibility, I had the game replace the file it could not verify, rebooted my computer and the game ran. It still likes to crash, when I try to exit. If I find a fix for this, I will post it.

I had the exact same issue, have you tried to "Troubleshoot Compatibility"? If you go to Fable in your library, right click, go to properties, and go to local files, you can view the files. There will be a file that basically says "Fable", it is an "application" and it is probably over 10,000 kb in case that helps. Right click the file, click troubleshoot compatibility and run the program, after I did that it worked fine, though I recommend forcing it to run Windows 8
