Well Santa I didn't see any specific issues with Windows 8.1 when it came to playing Fable so I posted my own
Okay so like so many of you I had the issue of the game crashing, after the opening cinematic. There was a rather simple fix to this. Now keep in mind, I am running Windows 8: Home edition. I refuse to update to 8.1 because games seem to stop working for it.
First, go into your game library from the Steam Application.
Second, click properties.
Third, Click the Local Files tab
Fourth, Verify Game Files
Fifth, reboot your system, and open steam, click Fable, and try playing.
This is what I did. I did not go in and mess with the compatibility, I had the game replace the file it could not verify, rebooted my computer and the game ran. It still likes to crash, when I try to exit. If I find a fix for this, I will post it.
I have windows 8.1 and the game crashes after the intro
