Controller Support
I owned this game back in the day for the original xbox, please update so that it has controller support, it really gives you the full effect of this great game when the controller is in your hand.

The PC version is far from unplayable, KB/M controls work just fine, there's nothing really wrong with them. Still, I'm sure it would be nicer to play with a controller, such a shame controller support wasn't implemented. Might try using xpadder, but I can only imagine that feeling a bit clunky. Not too fussed about it though, since keyboard/mouse controls work fine.

Some games are better with kb&m, but I really prefer this game using a controller. I tried the setup from the link by Trickbiker121 above, but I experienced some glitches with it because it's an older version of Xpadder. The last free version of Xpadder works just fine, but you have to set it up yourself. I used an old Playstation (+USB adapter) controller and it works perfectly. I prefer an inverted Y axis on my right stick (mouse), so that does screw up my in game menu a bit. Even so, it's a good idea to keep the kb&m nearby just in case...

I'm not affiliated with Xpadder in any way, but I do think it is thoroughly worth paying for. I actually paid for it (two times, even) when it was still free and I have yet to regret it.

The profiles you create can be shared with other users, so it's always worth to check for already existing profiles that may only need to be tweaked to your liking a bit.

If you use a different version of xpadder, just download the profile provided and it should work with it as long as it is newer. (The profile offers a different set for menus making it much easier to go through them with a controller.)

Why not just get Fable Anniversary instead if you prefer using gamepads? It is the remake of this game with controller support.

Is it at the same price?
Another question - why would they make the separate version with controller support?

Fable Anniversary is the recent (2014) remake of the original Fable, with added controller support, remastered with HD visuals and audio. It obviously costs more at $34.99 on steam than FLC, but you can get it on sale for approx $10 a lot of the time.

So the game doesn't have controller support, but now that Steam has controller API, can we use a controller with this game?

If you don't want to pay for Xpadder, just use AntiMicro: https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro/releases/tag/2.23

It's literally the same thing but open-source.

I suggest you to download AntimicroX instead of antimicro, because it has a bug that doesn't allow the "switch set while hold" option.
Here's the download link:
https://github.com/AntiMicroX/antimicrox/releases/tag/3.3.3

I made a custom set if you want to try it:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1t2xdp1oGkJSDdICJkZTxiNjnrXEbpCvT/view?usp=sharing
Download it and Load it in your AntimicroX version and customize it according to your preferences.

The input I used are:

Normal Mode:
Stick 1: Moving (wasd, arrows)
Stick 2: Camera (Mouse)
Y: Parry/Dodge (Middle-mouse button)
A: Interact (Tab)
X: Attack (Left mouse button)
B: Run/Flourish
Back: Sneak mode (Caps-lock)
Guide: Teleport (G)
Start: Menu (Enter Key)
L2: Target Lock-on (Space bar)
R2: Magic Mode -switches to magic mode when held- / Collecting spells (Left Shift)
R1: Ranged Weapon
L2: Melee Weapon
LS click: Zoom Bow (Right mouse button)
RS click: Mini Map

Magic Mode:
A: Spell 1 (assigned on mouse right button)
X: Spell 2 (assigned on mouse left button)
Y: Cycle Spells

Bow Mode (holding X/attack when using a bow):
Inverts the sticks so you can aim using the left stick
