How do hero saves... work?
I was doing the extremely sluggish and long arena quest when I happened to need to leave. I saved my progress, came back, and whoop-de-doo, I'm completely back at the start. I had gotten through I think 4 rounds, up to the undead, and now I gotta do it all over again. I mean, what the hell?

This is my guess. It seems as if hero saves only save EXP and other attributes, while literally all of your progress of the current quest is deleted. You need to do every quest, start to finish, no exceptions.

Is this in the remake version? I heard the remake was a waste of money, but if that's changed, I may consider buying it! Is there like a mod to fix the saves?

As far as I know, there are 2 types of saves. World and Hero. World saves are what you think of when you think of saving a game. Everything, progress, inventory, xp, etc. gets saved. Hero Saves are ONLY the xp and inventory (outside of some items). It was useful back in the day, because you just couldn't save in the middle of the quest if you had to leave, but with hero saves at least you wouldn't lose everything that you worked for, just quest progress.

This isn't a Bethesda game, I'm afraid, where you can just save anywhere and resume from that exact spot.

Seems like manual saves are pointless.

There are still World and Hero saves in Anniversary too.

It's not too big a deal to be back at the start of the Arena, you'll still have gained all the experience and stuff.

this is correct, it can be annoying but also can be good if you want to farm a quest chain for XP

Some see this as a problem, but it's a great way to exploit game mechanics. For example, The Arena Quest:
Go all the way to the final round, and just before it begins, leave. Then Hero Save and reload. You'll have all of the experience, money and potions you got in the prior run, and get to do it again. And I like to do that early on at the guild bc you can do all the quests before leaving, then Hero Save and do it again after selling all the stuff you got for free, plus you keep all the experience, gold and renown.
"fix the save" lol heheh imagine kids these days playing nintendo games.

this is the thing i've always hated and forgotten about Fable...
too unnoying for me, since I can play just a few times in the week...
wtf.. so pointless to save, if u cannot!!!:steamfacepalm:
The "Hero Save" literally sound and clear says "Save your accumulated Experience, Renown, Items and Statistics. YOUR QUEST PROGRESS WILL NOT BE SAVED." right there lol.

Hero saving is the best imo. you can start* the game with over 100g in your child characters pocket and BUY that box of chocolates like a boss. its good for when you want to begin your hero adventure with a bunch of exp. to spend so your not a skinny broke loser at the start. i mean i've "completed" the Training segment like 15 times and started the game with tons of money and exp. to spend on some powerful gear. then i used the games broken economy to make even more money and buy even better gear.

This may seem ridiculous to most people but Beer and or Weed and good tunes helps, it helps a lot actually. It helps get through the grind i mean.
