Console vs. PC?
I already have this game for console but never got round to playing it. It was secondhand, didn't pay much, but since it's in the Humble Bundle I'd be tempted to pick it up for PC if half the topic here weren't negatively about this console port. Does anybody have experience with both platforms? Will the PC's shortcomings be worth it for graphics over PS3?

i alrady beat the 360 version and played it again here, it looks al most the same than the console version, also the pc version its pretty well optimized.

Got this in the humble bundle myself and its ran flawlessly for me so far. The only thing I found annoying in the pc version is the default keybinds are a bit untraditional (i.e. middle mouse for reload instead of r) but not really an issue since you can always change these.

Never seen this on console so I can't speak for any graphical improvements though.

I got the PS3 version for free as a PlayStation Plus member and just got the Steam version from the Humble Bundle.

The technical differences are what you would expect when comparing most console games to their PC counterparts, whether it's Dead Space, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, etc.

You can crank up the resolution over the default 720p that most console games use (I played at 1080p) and I can play at a steady 60 fps over the 30 fps that most console games are limited to.

One area that was noteworthy was the giant spider battle. On the PS3, I noticed that the framerate would dropped dramatically, even to the point where I had trouble aiming the rocket launcher because everything was slowing down. On the PC, it never dropped below 60 fps so fighting the spider boss was somewhat easier.

One minor annoyance was when playing with a controller. Even though a wired Xbox 360 controller works just fine with rumble, for some dumb reason when you play they still display the icons for the keyboard. It can get a little confusing when you have to order commands or perform Quick Time Events as you have to memorize which keyboard button corresponds to which action it is on the controller.

Edit: I take that last comment back. There's a setting labled "Input Display Icons" where you can change between keyboard and gamepad. Silly me for not looking hard enough.

^ That's good to hear. I prefer to play shooters with KB+M and save controllers for adventure/action/fighting type games so that point won't be an issue. Cheers all

I can't compare the PS3 or XBox version, but the PC version runs good even on my older PC. The port issues mainly concern the inconvenient configuration tool with questionable defaults (like sensitivity, FOV, unusual keys etc) and some elements untypical in pure PC titles (like the rare "press a button at the right time or die"-minigames). So if you get around the setup there is not much wrong with the port.
