Is this game REALLY that bad?

My explanation is the first one is seen through nostalgia-goggles. :D Sure as hell worked on me! Damn you Sega, for training me to love your mascot at a young age then remarketing it when I'm an adult!! XD

I would agree the second one is an improvement but still, neither feel as awesome as the original classic games.

from what i've seen from johhny vs the world reviews the second is defeniately better than the first but not perfect. what i'm actually hoping is that if episode 3 is made sega will make a complete sonic 4 as one game and bring over improved physics to episode 1 and 2 if it gets better in 3 and maybe add some things like tails being regularly playable or playable in episode 1

Ep 2 is one of my fave Sonic games and one of my fave games of this year. I can play it over and over, it is always fun.

The physics are still not perfect, graphics are great, most of the musics are plain awful and so are the game mechanics and level design. Think homing attack and speed boosters(? or whatever they're called); the game basically plays itself, leaving physics zero relevance. I had fun with the multiplayer, though.

...while ep1 had awful physics, similar game mechanics and level design, meh music, ok graphics, and very nice special stages. Therefore I consider Ep1 a tad bit better.

While not as good as the classics, Sonic The Hedgehog 4 in general is a decent episodic game. I don't particularly like the over use of springs and speed boosters but it doesn't bother me too much. Other than that and the physics in Episode 1, I have a lot of fun with both episodes.

I'm late, but I have no nostalgic attachment to the original games. (Yeah I played them, I didn't think any of them except for S3K were that special.) I do however love Advance 1 and 3, and Ep 2 reminds me of all the good ideas from Advance 3 - namely, the co-op aspect. Seeing as I haven't liked a Sonic game in 8 years and was mostly a fan of the comics to begin with, I'd say it's pretty good since it revived my interest in the games.

in my opinion they need to do it the clasic way but make it really long so imagine sonic 3 and knuckles but with like 100 zones man thats a game to kill for. i do like most sonic games though apparantly sonic the hedgehog fro xbox 360 got bad reviews but i liked it. i like most sonic games though i grew up with sonic so yeh

Its a pretty good game now ive gotten around to play it, but I think the bosses are a bit too long and the games a bit short. But you should still get the game anyway, its only £10.

really all you wanna be sonic fans say it's bad or not so good wth its sonic look back sonic 1 started it sonic 2 and cd changed it 3 and knuckles really changed it it just keeps going enjoy it for what it is its a game not something that changes your freaking lives ... @West Coast Psycho both are good game's for old school 2d player's like my self just dont get it and start playen thinking your on a sega gen or mega drive

I enjoyed sonic generations these games feel like a step back and not in a good way. The combo thing in theory sounds ok however in practise its horrid and should have been left out altogether. The music for boss fights is like 9 notes and its annoying. They need to step back and re do the sonic franchise in a new way. Nintendo did it with Mario and Sega should do the same.
