'I Love Tails' achievement not unlocking

I'm having trouble getting the 'I Love Tails' achievement. I'm playing in local coop as Tails, and have played through the whole game (including special stages) twice... by my reckoning that would take me to about 43...

I then tried the "repeatedly fail special stage one/five" trick on score attack to tip it over the edge, and when it didn't unlock I carried on to a total 51 times - still didn't unlock!

Does every Act count individually? Does it have to be in a single session (as with Enemy Hunter in ep.1)? Any help would be appreciated!

Update: have tried some more things but still no luck.

Read that it only counts towards the progress when you see the 'Saving' screen, which only happens when you beat your top score/time. As mentioned above, we've beaten the whole game in score attack, so counting that as 25, we went on to play ther whole game in time attack for the first time (therefore 25 'Saving' screens...) = 50... no unlock

It's a bit frustrating that I've actually completed the criteria 'legimately' and it's not unlocking, whilst those who fudge it on a special stage with a second controller plugged in have got it (ok, so I tried that too when it didn't work)...

Any help at all?!

Unfortunately I've more or less tried exactly this already and it didn't work... (this is what I meant by 'I then tried the "repeatedly fail special stage one/five" trick on score attack' in the first post).

Literally the only difference between your description and what I did is that I had Player 2 (Sonic) set up the on second gamepad instead of the keyboard, since this is how we'd been playing in Local co-op. Doubt this would make a difference though...? However, worth noting that I didn't see the 'Saving' logo after each attempt when I tried it (hence the reason for re-completing the game, see post #2).

I know this thread is very old but just in case someone stumbles up on this and have trouble getting the achievement.

Just because you see "saving" box doesn't mean it counts, it just means that there is something to be saved which can be a high score red, ring etc. or that you have progressed towards this achievement.

I've gotten this achievement in score mode and really recommend anyone to do it there as well since I'm not sure how this will work out in time attack. The way I understand it is that you have to complete a stage which can be passing the goal post, defeating the boss, clearing a special stage or failing a special stage. I've done this in Special Stage 5 by missing the first spring. In order for your runs to count for the achievement you have to play tails as p1, when you choose a stage in local co-op a box will pop up and ask which player is gonna be Sonic and which will be Tails make sure Tails is p1 each time you start a stage.

If you do it on special stage 5 in score mode as I did you will see the "saving" box even though there isn't a high score, that's your cue that you're progressing towards the achievement.

Nowhere on the forums is this information available, so I had to figure out how to deal with it myself. Due to the fact that the game has a crooked code, for one reason or another you need to select Tails as P2, and only then the achievement will work. (I'm sure you had no doubt before that Tails should be P1). It was written somewhere else that the achievement only works in local multiplayer, but I don't know that.
