Dash not working on special stages?

When I go into a special stage, I cannot dash. At first I had it set to Q, then I tried reconfiguring it to 1 to see if that worked (it didn't) I've tried using both super sonic and tag team button they both didn't work.

Im not sure, For tag team do you need coins or?
Without coins no Tag Team Action ^^
Or is this only in GENERATIONS ? Sorry im confused now, im played both yesterday

No you don't. But in Sonic 4 episode 2 you practically need the dash to get the last emerald. I could be wrong
