Multiplayer was added in the middle of July via a patch, so no DLC required for it.
Never played MP, so I can't tell you how good it works.

Of all the turn based strategy games out there, this game was made for multiplayer. The turn times are really short, units are produced fast, and there is little empire micromanagement that increasingly bogs you down as the game progresses. The one caveat is, of course, if you choose to play on a massive map with tons of players. You can't do that and expect fast games. But even then, it will still be faster paced than say, Civilization or Heroes of Might and Magic.

But a few players on a normal sized map, turns are very fast. The turns are NOT simultaneous, which in my opinion is a good thing. Simultaneous turns in Civ 5 make multiplayer combat a total joke, since it is just a race to whoever can click the fastest as soon as a turn starts. Warlock does not need simultaneous turns, since individual turns can be completed in less than a minute or two for the good majority of the game.

All that being said, the downside is you probably aren't going to be able to play multiplayer whenever you want. I've never seen anyone in the lobby since the first multiplayer patch. But if you have some friends, that alleviates that problem. Also, you can find people to play against in the steam forum/group as well as the official forums.

In short: Is multiplayer any good? Yes, it kicks ass. If you have any friends, get them to buy the game for 50% off right now. If they are hesitant, tell them to play the demo. Done and done.

Thanks PrawnWonton, pretty much all the info i needed. i m gona discuss this with the lads now. Why dont they right any of this info on any of those review sites? why does everybody write the same shallow ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reviews? and why do these forums censor ♥♥♥♥, even simple phrases like 'kicks ass'?

It's a shame that the store page for this game says it is single player only. I'm not sure if it's steam or devs fault but they need to fix it for their own good.
