Recettear
Thank you i just bought Recettear right now and ill definely take a look at the other game aswell =)
If you want another difficult metroidvania, there's also Bunny Must Die!.
I had no idea, sorry about that then, correcting.
I haven't played Bunny Must Die yet, but if it's about Metroidvanias and one is willing to step outside the combat-focused realm of Fortune Summoners for a while, there's La-Mulana which is about confusing maze-like exploration and mind bending puzzles, as well as challenging bosses.
About to play Shantae Risky Revenge as well (it's on Humbe Bundle atm), heard good things about it.
* Mutant Mudds Deluxe.
similarities
* very good difficulty curve (better than this game, arguably, since it starts simple and the last levels are very, very difficult)
* platforming
* colorful visuals
differences
* not anime style art
* difficulty is from platforming challenges, not combat
* no bosses
Oh yeah, there's also La-Mulana. It's also a very difficult metroidvania...but not from combat or platforming (well there's some but it's not much). It's from figuring out the puzzles. You practically have to role-play Indiana Jones, taking careful notes of all the clues you come across...or check out walkthroughs and guides.
La-Mulana is also HUGE. Probably one of the biggest metroidvania games out there.
I know of another game called Kurovadis... it's similar in the sense that it's a metroidvania that also plays a bit like megaman (you can shoot), the graphics are pixel art, the controls are easy to master and the fighting system is really fun once you unlock all skills, and it's quite challenging too. But it's not on steam... and it's an H-game so maybe that's not your thing. It doesn't have much in terms of H-scenes, just a game over screen and some pixelated animations when the monsters grab you, but if you can get over that the game is really really fun. I believe there's a demo on the developer's site.
