AA:PG crashes on launch - solved
I've scoured the net and haven't been able to fix.

What happens:
Click the AA button in steam
Popup giving option of play, host, edit comes up
If a new install, punkbuster test comes up (passes)

What has been tried:
Check firewall
Turn firewall off
Remove configuration files for AAPG
Remove AAPG files
Uninstalled AAPG
Reboot

With each of these, I tried to launch the game from steam. If I had removed files, they were re-downloaded and I would attempt to launch the game when it was done. Upon reinstall, punkbuster checks would come up and they would pass.
Only change I know of is maybe game installs as no one else uses this laptop.

I'd appreciate any ideas as I've been beating my head against the wall on this one all day.
Thanks again!

when is it crashing? without all of the history, what precisely is it doing?

Just after the choice to play, host, or launch editor or after punkbuster setup (which is right after the above choice) if I hadn't tested punkbuster yet.

Can you post your game log?
(Do it right after you crash( or get kicked and exit the game) as the file gets overwritten each time you play.)

Just the last 100 lines or so

I would LOVE to, but the "America's Army Proving Grounds" isn't even being created. Thus my delima. And yes, I've checked about 20 times and I find 4 games in there, but not AAPG

mehermann, thank you for your assistance. It sparked me to check some other things. I ended up removing/reinstalling all of the c++ shared file things. That got me past the point that I was stuck. At that point, I would at least see the splash page. Looked in error logs and found

Address = 0x2a3163f (filename not found) [in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\America's Army\AAPG\Binaries\Win32\AAGame.exe]
Address = 0x2a1a2cf (filename not found) [in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\America's Army\AAPG\Binaries\Win32\AAGame.exe]
Address = 0x27a8c0f (filename not found) [in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\America's Army\AAPG\Binaries\Win32\AAGame.exe]

So, I did a remove/reinstall of AAPG
Same issue.
As I'm running x64, I figured maybe it just wasn't running the 32bit rather than not finding it. Renamed Win32 to Win321 and renamed Win64 to Win32

Now I can only see one server. Switched directories back and now I'm back to the errors as before.

let's try a couple of things.
The VC++, did you install x86 or x64? (It should have been the one to match your operating system.
delete the contents of My Documents\My Games\America's Army Proving Grounds\AAGame\Config
delete the .exe and reacquire just that one file

- Booting steam from where it installed itself (program files(x86/steam/steam.exe)
- The system has been up for over a year (minus hardware failure a few months ago) and steam has been it the whole time AA has been on it most if not all of that time
- I installed both the x86 and x64 visual c++ redistributables

I installed both the x86 and x64 visual c++ redistributables

that is a problem, remove the ones not compatible with your system. It might be as simple as installing the proper ones again.

Thank you everyone for your assistance.
The final fix was to remove all c++ redistributables, install the x86 versions and then the x64.

I would like to clarify that my understanding of the redistrubutables is that there are parts of x86 which are not in x64 and thus why I always install both. The final issue was 100% mine in that I must have not have installed one or more of x64 before it's x86 counterpart.

Had same problem. With Steam running, just start the 64 bit version of the game by double-clicking C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\America's Army\AAPG\Binaries\Win64\AAGame.exe. Steam launches the one in win32, not win64, still trying to figure out how to get steam to do it for me, but as long as steam is running, seems to work just fine, starting it manually. Just right click AAGame.exe and send a shortcut to desktop or something. Steam just has to be running, not actually start the game up.
