Crash at single player
Hello, I need some help with the singleplayer of Black Ops 2, it keeps crashing.
When doing the first mission I get to the part where I have to rescue frank (at least I think that is his name) from the boat.

When I have to place him under a log a couple of kid soldiers run by and after that I am asked by the game to go to crouch, after doing that the game crashes.

I had to re-do this part 5 times now and it ALWAYS crashes just after I get to crouch mode and need to move to the house!
I tried verifieing the game cache etc. but nothing works, it always crashes in this part.

I am trying to contact activision but I can't submit a ticket, all I get is to contact them by phone, it will cost me money and they are closed at this time, does someone know how to contact them by email?
Or even better, does someone know how to solve this problem?

Multplayer works fine for me, it's just this exact part in singleplayer that keeps crashing, it's driving me insane!

Update your video drivers to the latest vesrion

One of the first things I usually check , I have the latest AMD drivers (the "old" ones I used about a year ago got me through the campaign just fine)

Try the fixes here and otherwise post system specs

Start deleting friends from your friendlist, if you have over 60 people, the game will crash no matter what, just make sure you delete those you don't talk to anymore, so far it's the only mayor issue this game has

Thanks for the replies.

I contacted Activision through there Chat system and I was able to resolve the problem.
The solution did not come from the agent himself but something came to mind with a problem I had with previous call of duty games.

I changed my sound quality from 24bit 96000Hz to 16bit 48000Hz.
This fixed my problem.

Hi Selvator, I seem to have the exact same problem as you had. And I'm unable to fix this. Which sound card/driver do you have? I use the Realtec HD Audio Manager, but changing default output to16bit 48000Hz didnt help. Are you sure that this fixed your problem? Which other things did you try? Thank You!

Hey Maxtreiber,

I use Realtek HD Audio Manager as well.
You may want to check your control panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound.
When you see playback devices, it could be that there are other devices enabled, I disabled all other devices with the exception of Realtek High Definition Audio to force the game to use only that device.

You may also want to check and see if the properties of that device are also on 16bit 48000Hz, sometimes Windows will overwrite anything Realtek HD manager changes.

If this doesn't work, it may be something else crashing the game, if you crash at the exact same place ingame it can hardly be anything else but at this time I can't think of anything else.

Hope this helps.

Hi Selvator, thank you very much for your reply! Unfortunately disabling all other devices didnt help either, it still crashes ... its nearly the exact same place: After hiding behind the logs, the game asks you to crouch, then, after ca. 5 seconds it says "checkpoint reached" and then crashes. I cant even kill the process, because the COD window remains open (but blacked out) and blocks the task manager, so I always have to reboot ... did you have a similar behavior?
maxtreiber have you tried updating graphics drivers? If so post dxdiag.

Hey Maxtreiber, it does sound like the same issue as I was having.

As you are unable to use task manager to kill COD, I assume you are running on Windows XP right?

I would not know what else to try, you could post your Dxdiag file (like a21389 suggested) to see if there is any hardware/software that could be incompatible.
But since the thing with the sound quality fixed my issue I never bothered to look for a different solution so I am not sure what else to try.

Black Ops 2 does not support XP
maxtreiber Sep 7, 2013 @ 11:47am
I use "win 8 pro n", which is unfortunately also not supported ... thus, the activision support was not helpful, too ... however, for example "cod:mw3" works without problems!

You have an apple keyboard, which is odd. You aren't running this through vm windows are you? Other than that I don't see anything odd besides win8-n.

They should stick and support all versions... Cause what would happen when windows continues updating?
