Origins: Excavation site switches aren't working

I'm trying to upgrade my fire staff, and I got to the point where you have to use the switches in the excavation site to align the gems. I know I got all the other steps right because the fire orb did appear under the gems.

Now the switches don't do anything. The top, second down, and fourth down are all red, but the third down is yellow. I have tried all four switches but they all seem stuck.

Any ideas?

Once the orb is there, just shoot it with your fire staff. That's it. Then go upgrade it in the crazy place.

Now Origins has a lot of bugs/gltiches that will never be fixed as the game is no longer supported. Origins map has never been updated.
