Swordmaster bug? *SPOILERS*
During the quest with Eden and Nora an event happens that you need someone with a shield. The thing is Swordmaster's weapons are the sword and shield, although they are never depicted with the shield, they do have it. How come if you have Swordmaster and no other person with a shield (guardian/paladin), you fail the event? Is it a bug/oversight/or just something that's supposed to be that the Swordmaster has the stats of sword and shield weapon, without ever having the shield (I'd still argue they could deflect arrows easily). On that note a Saint isn't helpful in that scenario? Granted, when I failed, I re-did the event with someone with a shield right away, but it feels like the Saint should be able to do something too

edit: since I am getting into spoiler territory and don't want to make a new topic, is there any other "time sensitive" quests like Elan? There is a few instances where it seems like there should be, but unlike Elan's quest, there is no note stating that its urgent. I have yet to see if there is a different outcome either for rushing/taking your time, even though there seems to be loot strewn about like "bait" that seems like its supposed to cause you to have some negative outcomes, but aside Elan, I haven't found any events that outcomes change if you rush?

In-story, they do not have the shield.

They have a trait that converts all parry to dodge, and they can never parry any attack.

So the swordmaster can dodge arrows all day long... but that doesn't help the person behind them.

There are none that you will outright fail like Elans'.

There's one or two where taking your time will mean you have a tougher deadline in the final battle. I.e. instead of having 5 turns to stop a ritual you might have just 2.

Thank you for the answers o/ I still think a swordmaster should be able to deflect the arrows, but I don't think I knew the mechanics of why the swordmaster had the sword/shield combo, so thanks for that too.

I'm happy with the stricter time thing than just out right failing, cus some missions like the ritual mission you mentioned, I've not noticed the turn counter, but I never paid attention to that since my goal was to have my assassin/monk just rush over their and free her in a turn (I reaaaaaaally like movement gear and buffs). I'm glad to know that time isn't a "hidden" factor, or at least not an outright loss. The game has me a little anxious whether it tells the player or not. The case with Elan is pretty devastating, and I wasn't sure if it was a "this is a thing that happens and you should be aware of" or if the time didn't matter because the quest doesn't denote it

Honestly, I think it's more of a case of "early installment weirdness" as TVtropes calls it. Developer was just starting out with level design and afterwards figured out it wasn't that much fun and so didn't keep doing this.

Even harsher is that he put a lot of flowers to pick along the right route so if you dont know that you are even on a time limit you will fail it from wasting time with flowers. :V

The flowers are fine. You have enough time to get those AND Elan as long as you walk fairly efficiently.
