Difficulty Level
How is the difficulty level on this game? It looks like Battle Brothers, and that was impossible to win.

I like to say challenging but not as hard as battle brothers. However, as dev I'm too biased against my own game, so take that with a grain of salt and wait for another player give their opinion on it.

There is a difficulty option, however you won't be able to change midthrough a campaign.

As someone who enjoys Battle Brothers but uses a few mods to make it less punishing, I fing OAG to be very fair and well balanced.

Story Missions seem to "wait" for you to feel ready to take them on (I don't think there's a hidden timer or mechanic to punish you for delaying them too long), so you can keep taking on side quests and getting stronger. This makes it easier to recover from setbacks and ensure your A Team has the best available equipment and appropriate abilities. There's also a way to flee within battles and from dungeons, and a good save system that should help you avoid needing to do so.

It's a fantastic game with plenty to do. Strongly recommend it

A good save system? Like save scumming? Umm...nope. Thanks for the info.

Manual saving and reloading is optional.

You can lose a quest, heck you can even suffer a party wipe and bounce back a lot easier that BB, which you said BB was "impossible to win", so I was responding based on that. The progression and challenge is consistent and solid, and the game never seems unfair.

Ironman mode is probably your best bet for difficulty if you want a good challenge cant really save scum in that mode especially when it comes to events you do have that DnD dice rolls that help or hurt you on certain events, alot of randomness in the game atm in the current stage of the game but if you prefer not to play early access games id wait for full release you can check the road map dev is still tweaking alot of things like difficulty, bugs and stuff!!

I'd say 5 out of 10 in terms of difficulty. It really depends how you play.
blindseye Sep 23, 2023 @ 6:09pm
It's about as difficult as you want to make it, either using the Iron Man mode re save scumming, or choosing your quests which have predefined difficulties, so unlike BB where you run into random and possibly way over your level encounters. I think I have over 500 hours in BB and over 100 hours in this game, and I think this is less stressful.

I lost one in the first battle, and got smashed by the two wolves in the second. Umm...NOPE.

Depends sometimes on RNG, I had a level one party on a level one mission to collect mushrooms and they randomly encountered a battle with Lizardmen needless to say I was lucky to survive with only one dying and i had to abandon the mission as everyone else was on deaths door.

All good. I refunded the game, and am playing Last Epoch. I'm not even going to poke fun at your needledick comment.

You refunded a game because you couldn't be bothered to un-check a check mark..

Sometimes I feel like steams refund policy is too lenient towards people.

Steam makes money on their refund policy. People can try games that they might not like, and they don't have to worry that they'll find themselves in the position of having paid for something that they're unhappy about having bought.

(Ironically, they brought it in because Australians kept threatening to take them to court because they didn't refund games that don't work. And then they lost in court to the Australian authorities. So Australians get their strong legal rights, AND the opportunity to refund games that they don't like within 2 hours.)

Except, this game has a demo. There is literally no reason to refund a game that has a try before you buy policy except from their own user errors.

This would explain why Valve wouldn’t let me pre order a Steam Deck lol. I was so excited and it said it is unavailable in my Country when they went live.

So I ended up with an ROG Ally, which I absolutely love so no hard feelings.

We have a strong legal return system, and 2 year warranty for things like TV’s consoles regardless of extended warranty from the manufacturer or if they say Sony offers 1 year, we get our 2 year Australian Consumer Law regardless.

I'd humbly rank this game as the easiest among its "peers" such as Battle Brothers, XCOM and such. But then it is still a matter of difficulty settings.

On my 1st campaign in EA, I saved scum like crazy ==> Easy win
2nd campaign : Hard setting + IRONMAN ==> 3 deads only by campaign end
3rd campaign : I'm now doing a "ABOVE VERY HARD" campaign (ie : very hard difficulty setting with an extra -20% on economy) => You can find the beginning of a Let's play series here if you want to take a quick look at the battle difficulty and the economy struggles I face (sorry for broken english).

The main thing is that there is NO TIMER in this game : there is no risk of "falling behind" as you could in XCOM for instance. You can play cautiously and slowly towards your win without worrying of being late economically or technologically, which is a HUGE difference.
