A link for 1080p fix and proper Sonic textures.
Credit goes to both modders for making the game better.

Mediafire link in 7z. Add the appropriate beginning: mediafire with a .com and

no spaces, and then also .7z on the end to DL the file.

board.sonicstadium.org/topic/11774-the-official-sonic-4-mods-topic/?page=8

Modders have both provided a 1080p fix--the original EP1 is 720p lol--and texture fixes for the obnoxious Sonic shader and shaders in general on Episode 1. There are also some sound files that bring the dash back to a more retro sound for both EP1 and EP2 if you want. Metal Sonic textures for the EP2 as well.

Everything but the 1080p fix is available in dropbox from the sonic stadium link. My mediafire link has everything in a 7z.

You can just use the Sonic textures, which are the ipad versions--inherently superior in every way--or you can do what you want with the extra stuff. I recommend you use all the textures as it makes the game's visual aesthetic much more pleasant and original.

For whatever reason the designers added in a hideous light shader to Sonic and enemies that looks positively horrid. You will definitely see what I am talking about when you play it.

The media fire link contains everything all in one. All you need to do is paste over the textures in the proper files. For the 1080p fix all you need is the vis.exe and for your steam_api.dll to be renamed to storm_api.dll instead.

AA codes for Downsampling/Supersampling are at Guru3D forums as always. You can use these on the normal 720p version too, but why would you want to! Use Nvidia Inspector and make a new profile for the Sonic games.

2x2 Supersampling gives a near perfect look to this game, and looks better than what I am seeing from Nvidia DSR, which doesn't appear to really be working.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=35311521 ---- for screens.

I never even knew someone finally got this to work in 1080p! With the Ipad texture swap for Sonic and more this is easily the most definitive version. Really, I kind of like it in some ways.

The texture package swaps out the AWFUL Sonic shader or texture used in Episode I, which makes him look like he is glowing whenever he turns. It is the Ipad version and makes him look much more normal and of the genesis era. Download it. Savit. These go down sometimes without availability notice.

I can't find any links to the textures of the bosses and other animals that lessens the weird shader effect, but Sonic is the main offender here. Just replace the files in your Steam folder. There is some Episode I and II sound mods in here too that go back to the old sounds.

Which of these disable leaderboards/achivements, and which don't?

PS: Will the textures work w/ Episode 2; if yes what do I do differently?

Textures are only for Sonic 1. Disable achievements and leaderboards? I have no idea. I don't think any of these do that.

Also, those are just the Sonic and Super Sonic textures for 1. I have the others for the zone enemies and bosses but I can't find any upload for it. I suppose I could upload it myself.

The only thing available for Sonic EP 2 is sound mods.

Hey, I just uploaded a much nicer file that includes all you need and the textures for all of EP1.

It will not link mediafire anymore. Just go search the site for Sonic 4 mods and you will see the 7z file I uploaded. It's 14.51MB

Yeah. It's Sonic skin and enemies dude not Fallout 3 mods.

The whole game on Steam for me is 470MB.

These textures are just a more simple version that looks better than default shader, which looks really weird. They changed this for Sonic 4 EP2 so you don't need mods for that, although there is a sound mod included in the file for EP2. Original spin dash I think.

On the subject of the 1080p fix. I copied over the exe and dll, and sure 1080p is now a working option... provided I run in a window. Fullscreen the game jumps and stutters something terrible. At 720p fullscreen the game runs smoothly. (Well okay I think it looks blurry but then maybe I need to try it on a plasma). I shouldn't be lacking on the hardware front, so what gives? Any pro tips?
Khronikos Jul 28, 2015 @ 11:08pm
Not really. I have no problems running it.
mesonw Jul 29, 2015 @ 1:43pm
Ah well, thanks for answering.
Khronikos Jul 29, 2015 @ 11:12pm
All I know is I have the exe and dll file in the main folder on Steam. The textures go in all their normal folders within this folder. If you are seeing the 1080p fix then it must have worked I reckon. Usually something like that seems like a GPU driver problem or something. Try cleaning and a full clean install possibly. Defrag won't hurt either. If you are using any AA codes from Guru pr Nvidia DSR--make sure you can handle that kind of power.

I've tried 1080 fullscreen before patching, and after patching. Tried it on nvidia 356.30 drivers and after updating last night, 356.63 drivers (before and after patching). Each time the game runs jerky. In a window at 1920x1063(!) it runs fine, before or after patching, either driver.

So the patch does fix the resolution it runs at, but doesn't appear to be related to my issue. I've also fiddled with a few settings like disabling SLI. It's a fairly new laptop so don't think any maintenance is needed as such. I'm not making use of any AA codes... don't even know what you mean by that :)

Thanks for your help, but it does look like an issue unrelated to this patch. I guess I can cope with a window...

Hey, you're better off using supersample anti aliasing with the texture mod and forget the 1080p fix, looks just as good.
