No controllers working at all, on this game anymore

I have tried wired controllers, my Xbox Wireless controller, and my 8BitDo wireless arcade controller for XBox (works on PC too). At the moment I can only play this game with a keyboard, as long as I don't go into any options as I can't back out of the options and have to force-quit the process in Task Manager.

you can use pad mappers, like joytokey or xpadder, to asign the keyboard keys to your pad

When you launch the game, go to configure instead of launch, and then on the configure window there's a player 1 tab. click that and you'll be able to change the input method from keyboard to gamepad.
