I think...or do you think we should act now?
As someone who currently has a game on Steam, I can tell you that you will be very surprised at the sheer amount of people who want to 100% the game they enjoy. I made similar mistakes where some achievements were simply not very fun to get, but I thought it'd have been a nice little bonus and that's it.
Issue was, people wanted to 100% the game, so they grinded and grinded until they got those achievements anyway. It wasn't my intention for that to be the case, but it's how it ended up and ultimately I elected to remove said achievements.
The Early Access achievement is going to be literally impossible to obtain when the game leaves Early Access, as such you're going to have a lot of backlash when that time comes. I think it would be in your best interest to remove it more sooner than later, as every day your game grows, you want this to be less and less of a "thing".
Just my opinion, of course. You do what you think is right.
If you can spare the dev time, go for it. There doesn't need to be a big perk to playing a game in EA, though. Many people check out these kinds of games because they're in a genre that they're a fan of. No additional perks are really necessary. Everyone knows what Early Access is and what it entails and it rarely offers some kind of bonus.
Still, if it's something you could do for fun, why not?
Other than that, whatever suites your fancy
I would not do anything that cannot be obtained later.
If you really want to give something for Early Access buyers, make it like a DLC that EA buyers get for free but late buyers can purchase it, and that's it.
As a "completionist" myself nothing pisses me off more than getting a game and noticing later that I'm not able to have the full experience even if I wanted to pay for it. Pre-purchase exclusives have a bad reputation for a reason.
And yeah, I'd definitely remove this achievement from the game asap.
Honestly, I don't think I really need anything else from purchasing the game in EA, for the price it is and the fun I already had, it was already well worth it.
Or mech skins, somekind of a beaten up veteran mechs repaired hundred times.
I would support this - some minor DLC which is free for early acess buyers and costs a little bit of money after release. I personally really hate when there is something I cant get just because I was too late to buying the game.
I think most people would agree that our EA perk is quite simply getting to play the game and see/help it develop.
Just rename early access achievement into something like "let's begin" achievement, so anybody who start the game get it regardless of early access status.
And make joke bonus level unlockable after player beats all stages and their hyper modes or something.
Also EA page says that you might raise the price further into the development.
So if you want EA players to have something, we already have a discount. And a huge one if we bought this on current sale.
That's good enough.
Don't chop up the game in pieces and sell them separately like some corrupt AAA company.
Every player should get full access to all content, being bonus levels, skins, unlockables, anything. And everything.
Just came here to see if anyone adressed the EA achievement to be changed but this person sums up everything perfectly. Good lad, have a pint on me
