Stuck on "retrieving achievements and stats from steam"

I don't know if this has anything to do with the recent termination of online or not but it has made my game pretty much unplayable, it just gets stuck in the initial screen with that message...

I'm having this issue too. The game doesn't even reach the main menu, it is stuck on this screen.

Just so you know, I was having this issue when using tethered wi-fi, after I switched to regular wi-fi things went smoothly, don't know if that's your specific issue but maybe something like that ?

Same problem. Game no longer works. And I don't use Wifi.
