there are a lot of mario games that are average and people doesnt say anything
it's because bashing sonic game gives clout people have been doing it since the infamous "sonic was allways bad." comment ign made. making fun of sonic has been popular ever since 06. it's really annoying honestly.
lost world was just mid.
in the 2d half we have only mania which was great., then sonic episode 4 and part 2 both were terrible.
we've not had that many sonic games in the 2010's actually now that i think about it. so so not really sure what you mean.
we had 4 good games 1 okay game, and 4 bad games so kinda even really.
Here's a brief rundown of things he's pointed out:
HUD:
-The score is displayed only while the game is paused.
Controls:
-Only 2 Spin Dash buttons. Sonic Origins also had only 2 Spin Dash buttons as well, but Sonic Origins Plus added a 3rd Spin Dash button.
-When you jump with one button, the other jump button doesn't do the 2nd jump action (e.g. flying or gliding). To me, it sounds like you can't piano buttons to fly/glide.
Level Design:
-Bonus Stages are based on Sonic 1's Special Stages, while being less colorful and more monotonous. And their music, as Wester put it, is "depressing", and I agree.
-Auto scrollers and sections where you must avoid timing-based hazards such as red lasers occur from time to time.
Bosses:
-Boss fall into 2 categories:
1. Insanely bad, dumbly cheap, and have way too many i-frames.
2. Auto scroller or Auto sequence bosses, and there are so many of them.
-Fang has instant death attacks. Yes, attacks that kill you regardless of whether or not you have rings.
-Bosses appear to be overly long and repetitive. Dying to a boss requires you to defeat their 1st phase again.
Characters:
Knuckles:
-Can't Spin Dash out of his glide cancel's landing animation. Sonic Origins Plus didn't have this issue with him.
-Glide doesn't accelerate, this is especially apparent when you have Speed Shoes active.
Amy:
+Amy can double jump.
-In Sonic Origins Plus, she can do a Hammer Dash that appears to work like the Drop Dash, except she can turn around instantly during the Hammer Dash. Here, it has no instant ground mobility.
-When you release jump, Amy retracts her hammer (and therefore, stops having an attack out).
Sonic:
=Sonic is okay for the most part, aside from the absence of elemental shields.
Tails:
+Tails can now fall down faster from flying, by holding down.
Trip:
+Trip can double jump, like Amy can.
+Trip can cling onto walls and move on them like Knuckles can climb them, but Trip can also cling onto ceilings/roofs and move while on them.
Trip makes Amy and Knuckles obsolete, according to Werster.
4: Ep II, Generations 3DS, and Team Sonic Racing are just above ass.
Generations and Colors DS are good.
Mania and All-Stars Racing Transformed are great.
The bad WAY outnumbers the good for me, and contains all of the main Sonic games there have been over this time period aside from Generations.
plenty of bosses have had instant kill attacks before that isn't new. literally existed in the final boss of sonic 1 and spring yard zone boss.
dying to phase one have to do it again.
so like every retro sonic game in existance?
sonic 2 you had to beat silver sonic to fight deathegg bot every time. so what's new?
how is tails falling faster a bad thing? that sounds useful as hell.
i'd prefer amy to have something different from sonic anyways also double jump is something she has in modern games so makes sense they gave it to her now. (also play advance.)
out of all these only knuckles seems like a valid complaint.
also oh no secret character is OP what a surpise!
Also Sonic 2's final bosses are a serious low point for that game. They're kinda garbage. Being similar to that isn't desirable or acceptable.
It isn't. It's a point of praise, hence the plus sign rather than minus sign before that point.
You've misunderstood. He praises Amy having a double jump, and criticizes the lack of the unique utility that her hammer attack offered in Origins Plus.
It isn't an issue of the "secret" character being OP, and they aren't OP anyway.
It's an issue of the "secret" character having abilities that overlap with the other characters, except done less poorly, making the other characters much less worth playing ever.
