Worth it for the single player?

Heard the multiplayer is bad but if I play just for single player, is it worth it?

Singleplayer is overall a really solid Classic Sonic experience. The most contentious part about it's gameplay is probably the bosses are bit more intricate then the normal Classic Sonic experience--but they shouldn't be too bad if you make good use of the tools the game gives you.

Mostly, I would advise against getting the game at full price. Although it has three story campaigns--it's still pretty short, being about 5-6 hours total (about the same length as both Sonic 3 campaigns together). A fun experience all the way through that's really convenient to replay, but not the best as far as the money:time ratio goes. However, the game was already on sale for Black Friday and the game awards, and I would be surprised if it doesn't get another sale for Christmas.

the weakest part is honestly the level design itself, base game is alright, Trip's Campaign and the True Ending isn't worth it

It's a rather weak game no matter how you play it. There are some standout moments, and one zone in particular (Press Factory) is actually quite good, but otherwise the game is mid at best.
