Animations seem slow and floaty

The classic Sonic games + Generations + Mania all seemed to have nailed the animation for Sonic.

But something seems off in Superstars, the animations seem slow and floaty like in Sonic 4 I and II. Why do the animations for this seem so slow, is it just my imagination?

I don't know. In still images perhaps, but the speed isn't there in motion.

The regular run speed (on flat surface) might be somewhat slower, Im not 100% on that one. Although when you get Super Sonic he zooms through the levels like crazy

Ok I haven't seen Super Sonic yet.

The more I thought about this the more I thought about the illusion of speed and the difference between this and the other games I mentioned.

The animations seem quite smooth, but maybe the smooth animations make it seem slower when Sonic dashes or spins.
