Why is publicity/reviews/sales very low for this game?
I just completed Sonic 1,2, CD, 3 & Knuckles, and I'm so excited to play this. But seems like there's not a lot of publicity, reviews, sales? What happpened? Thanks!

No idea, Im saving to buy this game... dont care what other people say, this game feels like a solid 9/10 for what I saw.

the music Jun made is bad, but only like 6 out of the 60 themes this game have is... well... bad...

Because the game is mid. No other way to put it. Even if you don't get it on PC (and thus won't have to deal with forced Epic software installation even if you get it on Steam, on top of Denuvo), the console versions are still the same game, and that game is very mid. Absolutely not worth full price of a AAA title. $90 in Canada is bonkers, especially for a ~3 hour game.

I'd recommend this for $15. It's essentially Sonic 4 Episode 3.

It's a overpriced game, then on PC you have Denuvo and it telling you to make a Epic account which would of been bad enough but they hid that fact till after release when they silently added the tags.

The game is not a $60 game, it's a decent game for $30 (at most $40) but it's a failure priced at $60 with content being ripped out and sold for extra.

Make your own opinion, everyone on PC is just crying about Denuvo and other things that don't matter game-wise. It's a very solid game.

You will also see all these fake comments "it's 2 hours long"... complete fallacy. I'm 14 hours in and haven't beaten the 2nd story yet. There are 3 main stories. Granted, I have stopped along the way to play the battle mode and go for some achievements. But it's definitely longer than usual 2D Sonic games. The battle mode adds to the replay value and makes the price point worth it in my view.

If you enjoy 2D Sonic, you'll love this game

The game has only about 5 hours of content, without counting padding because of large amount of artificial difficulty in late game.

The first two story are a bit over 2 hours each, then the final story is a single long level with no checkpoints.

Just because you took extra long doesn't mean the game is long.

Physics mostly feel good, but some things are off. Knuckles gliding doesn't accelerate in the air and superglide doesn't work at all. There are only two jump buttons instead of three, and if you're holding one of them the others don't accept input.

The level design is meh. A far cry from Mania.

The bosses suuuuuuuuuuck. Again, Mania's are so much better. Even the Sonic 1 bosses are better than the schlock bosses in Superstars. And no, it's not a difficulty thing: the bosses are piss easy but they have long stretches where they just can't be attacked. Artificially padded for time.

It ain't the worst Sonic game, not by a longshot. But we should've had Mania 2 instead.

lol, if you just hold right and don't go for any Emeralds or special stages and beat every boss on the first try, maybe. For a 1st playthrough trying to do everything, there's a 0% chance anyone beat it in 2 hours.

The Mania bosses were a joke. The easiest bosses in the series. While some bosses in this game might be a tad too hard, they are so much better designed. It's about time you can't abuse vulnerability and kill every boss in 10 seconds. What a poor point to make.

frontiers had a lot of things for it.
1) leakers ended up building up hype.
2) youtubers hyping and speculating theories about the game.
3) fan involvement on twitter with director on. Fan Testing then seeing change in next update.
4) game spacing between games. sonic drought followed by sonic saturation. Megaman series died because it started competing with other megaman games. Multiple games and updates a year will kill the series. it needs space between games and quality into it. Sonic Frontiers was released in 2022 and had updates with in months. Super Stars was better off releasing next year. focusing on quality, building speculation, fan involvement, leakers. etc.

So you like terrible bosses. Gotcha.

Most of the Mania bosses rewarded your knowledge by letting you damage them quickly, rather than sitting around watching Sonic 4 cutscene attacks that barely take a pulse to dodge, yet must be dealt with because the boss just ain't accepting damage right now.

Incorrect, all you do is take damage once, then hit the boss 6 times in quick succession before your i-frames disappear and it's over. Terrible bosses. They don't move when hit and you can just keep hitting them. No skill unless you are purposely trying to beat them with "no damage", which is your supposed "artificial difficulty" yall keep parroting about this game

You can get all 7 emeralds and get to the first final boss in about two hours first try. I beat Trip's story up to the final boss even faster. The true final boss is about 10 minutes not counting having to retry.

Edit: Over 75% of my playtime was trying to beat the final bosses because of cheap insta-deaths

Judging a game's length based on speed running is literally the least "logic"al thing one could do.

I judged it base on my first playthrough. Speed run is half the time I said worth of content.
