No Multi-Player on Steam?
I noticed the Steam page for this says it is only single player and does not have local co-op. I hope this is just an error that gets fixed soon. Seems likely since there are other users making similar post about pricing being off in their region and you still can't select Steam for the Amy Rose Skin newsletter sign up.

Any reason to think the PC version won't have multiplayer?

UPDATE:
Luckily was just a delay in updating the store page. They even added a tag for cross platform multiplayer.

To clarify, the general product description says it will have multiplayer but that section on the right in steam that list the game features (single players, controller support, languages, etc) only shows single player.

It says in the description if you read that it has local co op for main game and an online challenge mode.

Probably just a mistake, they might notice and correct it later.

These are welcome surprises.

Cool, but I don't get why even implement online multiplayer if it's gonna be this boring and uninteresting and most likely to die after the first week. Just some races and battle modes with not even the main cast and vialins used in the story mode, just some bland looking robots just like Sonic Boom Fire and Ice's Race mode. This wouldn't be a huge problem but there's not even a option to play the game the STORY mode online JUST remote play. It doesn't make any sense to me.

I mean it's pretty obvious that it wasn't made for that functionality so it doesn't work. I imagine that 2 -4 people moving independently through the stages mechanically didn't work and screwed up various boss triggers and what not. It's not that hard to understand. Don't get me wrong, I'd have loved for the story to have online co op, but it's not some easy switch. Even if they could do it, it would be 2 -4 people running through the stage completely independently. Sonic is fast paced and while sonic 2, sonic 3, Sonic adventure and sonic mania had co op, your character would frequently fly off screen and then teleport back in. In online MP you'd just fly off the screen but instead of flying back you'd just be playing the stage independently. Maybe the next game can be made from the ground up for online co op, but it makes more sense for the series for it to be local/remote play for now.

That's true but still, it would be cool if they could optimize the game more for online and local multiplayer rather than just this race/battle mode.

Yea I agree. I'd love to see a game designed from the ground up for chaotic Co op schenanigans. Maybe with switches on each path to help one another or a versus mode like Mario 35 or whatever.

Exactly! Hopefully the next sonic game wil be more like that new MHA battle royale that's been released recently. Imagine the chaos and the fun xD

Remote play together is definitely.... good enough for this specific game. However, online multiplayer functionality would be great for the simple fact that consoles dont have remote play together. It wont severely negatively impact me because i have this functionality, and other options between built in AMD drivers and parsec if it didnt have this support, but it still ♥♥♥♥♥ over console users who also would like to have the same experience but cannot.

This should be a MASSIVE wake up call for future games. Especially since SEGA/Sonic Team made the first ever console MMO; Phantasy Star Online for the first online compatable system, the Dreamcast.

Remote Play's advantage is being able to play the main campaign with a friend by distance, although with a considerable input lag.
That said, if we take all of that was said here, OL is better suited for the battle/party modes, due to how hard it would be to track your players into a large field/level, impacting even on events and such. Maybe on a 3D title with a good space this could work though, since players would have better movement all around

There is zero reason to believe that a proper online functionality would be impossible, hard, or even a mild inconvenience to code for a sonic game of all things. A platformer. If a tenth of a second or less input lag or latency kills your platforming experience, the game is designed like ♥♥♥♥. MOBAs and FPSs have had online multiplayer for decades, and in those games a tenth of a second actually matters.
