Balancing Between FPS and Chess?
I haven't played an enormous amount of this game, but I have noticed something. It definitely feels like this is more of an FPS game that resembles chess instead of a Chess game that implements FPS mechanics. That is to say, if a player is really good at playing first person shooters, they can throw out any and all principles of playing chess and still get plenty of wins under their belt.

I would be interested to see features implemented to make players use at least a little real chess strategy while playing this game. For example, if an attacking piece got some important advantage that would allow normally weak pieces to pick fair fights with stronger pieces, then players would actually have to learn to defend their pieces and create a sound structure on the board. This shouldn't be so overdone as to guarantee a victory for the attacking piece, since this would just bring the strategy entirely down to being good at chess, tipping the game balance entirely the opposite direction of what it is now.

Another good example of this balance -- the King seems to be a very powerful piece in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. That's fine, as different from normal chess as that is. My issue is that he seems to be so powerful that players have no reason to defend their King, which is absolutely NOT how chess works lol. The King being a very powerful piece feels fine when the King is the one attacking; however, it definitely feels like players should be punished more for just allowing their King to be attacked instead of defending it the way you would be forced to in a normal game of Chess.

Once again, I'm not saying that this game should be 90% chess and 10% FPS. I just wish I could be rewarded a little for playing the London opening lol, or at least for abiding by some principles of good chess strategy.

Does anyone else feel the same way, or am I alone in this opinion? Anyone else have ideas for balancing the gameplay between chess and a shooter?
