Modding Question
Dear Devs,

Could you please release a short official modding guide with a basic example? Somewhere in this forum a dev once outlines a short how-to, but I am not able to find it.

It would be particularly helpful if you could also share details about:

* What aspects of the game are currently moddable.

* The extent to which modding is possible without negatively impacting game stability.

For instance, one change I’d like to make is to allow additional government buildings to provide the +1 city cap bonus, similar to the Plaza building, to support a wider playstyle. Is this technically achievable within the current modding framework?

Thank you for your time and for considering the community's interest in modding!

You will find all the data to this in the modding section of these discussions. "Uncivilized" did a full example in civfanatics, and the mods he has published are top of the line in quality. I use them as a guide to all the thing you can do, and you can do a lot for exemple I added +5 city cap to my favorite leader!

Thanks for your reply. I assume you refer to this guide: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/ara-modding-guide.692514/

Unfortunately I cannot locate the game data source mod zip in the Ara installation folder at `assets\SourceMods\GameDataSource_v...zip`, therefore I cannot follow this guide.

Also, the devs teased the new mod import function in their video about Patch 1.1, which players are expected to use. A short, official guide explaining how to modify some integer in-game parameters within the files and how to import them would be incredibly helpful.

go to the game directory, find the directory called SourceMods, copy it to your doc directory and change the name to DefaultMod.. Then create a directory called Mods in the same place.
Use those files for your mods (copy and edit to your heartt content).
Good luck.

What about the settings_v121 file in appdata? It is not there for me.

For me too.. I do have the SourceMods directory, however, the Settings_V122.txt is nowhere to be found. The guide was created for Version 1.0.4 so maybe there have been some changes with 1.1

It is not there for me. Not any Ara History Untold folder.

Did you allow "display hidden files" in the exploration folder?

Thank you for the tips! I was able to find the Settings..txt file in AppData/Local. Could you explain where the Mods directory is supposed to be created? I got "C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\Ara History Untold\Mods\DefaultMod". Where do I now create the new "Mods" directory? On the same level as DefaultMod or inside DefaultMod? And in the new Mods directory, am I supposed to copy files from DefaultMod to the new Mods folder and just paste them inside without any subdirectories?

In the Mods directory. Give you mod any name and copy/edit the files from the defaultmod directory to your mod.
The rest is fairly well explained if you follow the instruction in the mods discussion.
Good Luck and enjoy!!
