Not being able to play this in multiplayer because I can't connect to Xbox nextwork is quite a big reason to refund this.
The xbox signin window may be popping under the game. Try running the game in windowed mode so the popup is more obvious.
Note the pop up doesn't work in Linux so I wouldn't bother with it if you're trying it with Proton. The game itself works fine in Proton just not the xbox integration. Proton likely cannot emulate the xbox services required for the Login
Also see if running GamingRuntimeRedist.exe helps its in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Ara History Untold\redist\GamingRuntimeRedist.exe
If you're having issues I would try teh following
1) Install the xbox app as this tends to ensure 'everything else' is installed. Reboot as this installs stuff that requires a reboot
2) Check if you have services called "GamingServices" and "GamingServicesNet" and that they are both running
3) Check under "processes" in Task Manager if you have something running called "GamingServices"
This is more an exploratory thing so please report back with your findings. Thanks
ARA automatically signed me into xbox live. I was actually a little confused at first because the profile icon was different than steam.
The icon you see in the upper right will be your xbox avatar not your steam one.
If you run Windows with a Windows account, rather than a local account, the game will generally try to authenticate you with your Windows account since that's basically your "xbox" account for all intents and purposes.
