Aww mate your in for a treat. You did exactly what I did. I chose 1250 turns and realized that it doesn't matter. You end up finishing the game after 500 turns because after you research every tech and advance all the era's the game ends. You can't go past this point.
Now you might ask would setting the game to 1250 turns slow how you progress through the ages? That would make sense wouldn't it however this game clearly isn't finished so they didn't get far enough to flesh this out. The game was released before it was finished thus why so many aspects of the game are unbalanced or just clearly unfinished. They will no doubt flesh this out in the future but as of right now you can't play past around the 500 turn mark
If you’re the type who pushes as fast as you can to finish everything quickly, 300 turns is a good pace. If you like to take things really slow and enjoy your time spent playing, 1250 is good, but you probably won’t end up anywhere near that limit. Anything in the middle is shades of grey between those extremes.
Me, I play on 1250.
Even when you sett your turn Limit high, Research goes to fast for me.
I really hope the devs are thinking about changing it so you can play unlimited!
Yes every turn keeps you heavily involved. Thereis always something to take care of and mange.
“Too much micro,” some will say. Many of the same people will talk about how boring the game is. Which doesn’t seem to be a coincidence, A self-fulfilling prophecy?
Im not so i have a question.
If mine next game is 300 turns will i then reach the end of the tech tree?
Or is it quit at turn 300 while youre in the midlle ages or renaisance?
Note this response is based on my current game and 2 previous games (on the longest turn limit).
Depends on how fast you're teching. Right now I'm playing a One-City attempt with Copernicus. I'm reaching the end of the Antiquities era at Turn 167 after forgetting about Code of Laws for a bit which hampered my tech growth. By turn 300, if I manage to survive, I'll probably be either wrapping the Renaissance or mid-Enlightenment.
Consequently, if I wasn't limiting myself to one city, I'd be in the early portion of Act 3 about that time from what I'm seeing of my tech output, maybe further, but Copernicus has some obscene bonuses for Science (so does Sejong of Korea). I'm definitely not rushing the eras and grabbing most of the tech just because. I could see someone easily rushing the end-game by skipping techs they don't need/want at the moment.
Playing a leader who doesn't have science based bonuses I'd probably be a little ways behind this like maybe just now getting to Antiquities or something, but 300 isn't too bad a turn limit if you either rush tech trees or don't mind missing out on some options.
I finished one run, which was more relaxed one-city challenge. Won the game turn 314, by reaching singularity and triggering victory countdown.
I think Act1 pace was somehow ok, but since reaching Act2 it has been too fast, I think taking 3 and sooner than later just 2 turns per tech
