No Sound
I've played it before and it worked alright I, but recently when I loaded it up I noticed theres absolutely no sound in the game what so ever. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or heard of it and might know a possible fix? I've verified my files - deleted it and download/re-install it and still nothing. So far out of 10 or so games I've played recently its the only one I have problems with.

Also updated my sound drivers to see if that was the case but it didn't fix it. Any other ideals come to mind?

well if it is only 1 out of 10 games that have the problem, I am sure it is somewhere within the game. you dont have to redownload the game or reinsall sound driver let alone clean install OS (lol).

there is possibility, that actually there is a sound, but it is too low you barely hear it.
usually this happens when you set your SYSTEM SOUND too soft.

sound setting in PC is not synced (which is stupid btw), that is why if you set your windows sound too soft, yet really high on your realtek or dolbi or any other similar drivers, certain games only read the sound setting from the windows alone, which unaffected from your "other" sound driver.

so it is best for least annoyance sounds drama,
first, put your game sound option to all 70% (music, se, dialogue), then
put the system sounds on 30 or 40 and never touch it again. then check your speaker/headset volume, and set it to 50%. after that adjust your "other" sound driver setting to 50% (if there is any).
once its done, everytime you want to adjust game volume, do it from in-game sound option AND your speaker/headset volume.

I had this problem (not with sleeping dogs) but in my case, the sound was too loud.

if this is not your problem (nor solution), please get back to us :f2_happy:

Thanks for the reply Heichalot, raising my system volume up to 100% from 50% worked once, but after that its gone back to no sound in game.

thats weird,
gone back to no sound as in just no sound or your system volume reverted back to 50%?
are you using a soundcard?

(moar infos would be better, less trial & error, or headbanging to the wall lol)

yeah, originally I had my system volume set to 50% and had no sound coming from the game. I tried your advise of turning my volume all the way up to 100% and starting the game up and it worked, as in I had sound ingame. I wanted to make sure this did indeed fix it I closed restored my sound to 50% and tried it again. Like before it went back to no sound. I then went back to adjust my sound back up to 100% and tried it once more, unfortnately, this time I still had no sound in game. So maybe the first time it worked was just a fluke?

I'm adding my dxdiag files with this if that helps any, idk some people I've noticed asks for these when helping other troubleshoot things.

And yes I'm using a soundcard, the onboard sound is disabled from bios. Also theres no longer sound with the setting still at 100%.

Update: If I set my usb headset as the default playback device I get sound on the initial title screens (square enix, united front, amd) but once it gets to the Sleeping dogs and onwards theres zero sound. So that cuts out the soundcard issue I would assume since my usb and soundcard run off different drivers right?

just switched back to my soundcard as default device and also now have sound on the initial title screens like with the usb headset. But again once it gets to the sleeping dogs part it cuts back out.

I had this issue in another game and I had it fixed by reducing the audio quality.
Try this: Go to the [advanced] section on your Audio unit, and try a lower quality setting, maybe below 24bits.

oh yes, hwo can I forgot,
this ^

please do not select quality over 24bits,
unless you are really doing a recording in music business lol, because windows & games does not gives sound quality over 24.

Thanks, I've tried it on each of the sample rates that was an option and nothing seemed to change. I mean I haven't altered any config files, as its should be a fresh install since I manually deleted the folder before reinstalling it through steam.

I'm hoping it doesn't turn out to be something obviously simple that I end up feeling stupid afterwords, but really at this point, I'm willing to look stupid if I could just play the game with some sound if you know what I mean.

i understand your stress/annoyance lol I do

but dont hastilty reinstall windows because thats not the problem,
also it is not your soundcard.

btw,
motherboard also has onboard soundcard.
did you install the driver?
because, if you installed onboard sound driver AND your souncard driver, it will conflict.

if you do, to be safe, plug out your internet cable,
unisntall your soundcard driver & software, restart,
uninstall your onboard souncard (realtek), restart,
reinstall your soundcard driver

No, drivers for it have never been installed for onboard as I had it disabled from bios from the get-go. Or atleast not intentionally installed anyways.

I'll probably just end up putting this off until I do a format later this fall/winter. It'll be easier to troubleshoot then (if needed at all) without all the added software and drivers that gets installed over time.

I want to thank you for trying to assist me though. It was much appreciated.

Just thought I would write back and say that today when I loaded the game up it worked fine. no issues. No clue what my problem was or what fixed it as I haven't changed anythng since I last tried it.

what sorcery is this :f2_suprised:

just wondering, did you turned off power from your PSU ?
sometimes, motherboard could get errors (rarely), and it could be solved by simply restarting your PSU (turning off power completely for the mobo)*

*often found on "missing" ethernet
