Japanese DLC for Non-Japanese Version?!

Hey everyone,

Since moving to Japan about 10 months ago I've learned about how the Steam store really has quite a few differences between regions. Like the fact that COD games here cost abou 100 Dollars. Ridiculous. Luckily, I'm ok with not buying those games.

Anyway - Sleeping dogs had a 70 Dollars price tag, which presumably comes from the fact that the publisher tags on the additional cost of translating the game into Japanese and has people here foot the bill. It also has some censorship included, for good measure.

Since I can live without having the game in Japanese and am generally opposed to any kind of censorship, a good friend of mine gifted me the EU version. Fast-forward to me starting the game and spotting 'HD Textures' setting. 'Awesome!" I thought. Quickly quit, got the DLC and started back up.

The game unfortunately refuses to recognize this installed DLC. I went to my 'Account Details' and saw that while the Sleeping Dogs game is noted as

'Sleeping Dogs', the complimentary DLC is listed as...

'Sleeping Dogs: HD pack JP'

So... I'm guessing the non-JP version doesn't recognize the JP HD pack... Does anyone have any suggestions about how to resolve this issue?

Is your moving to Japan temporary? As far as I know, if you just go on a holiday or for work in other countries, you can contact steam support, they'll give you a link or something that you can buy with your home region. So I think you should contact the support, maybe they will exchange your JP version to a compatible one.

There's probably something you can switch in your profile or Steam settings that will switch the region you're in. I think it's something you pick when creating a profile but not sure.

That is very strange. I bought Sleeping Dogs from another site, so my copy is considered "retail", and later I went back and bought almost all the DLC, but I have had no trouble. Sorry: I should mention I live in Japan.

In my account, it says "Sleeping Dogs Digital Edition" and for the HD pack it says "Sleeping Dogs HD Pack JP.

I don't think I've ever used the HD pack, honestly, because the game looks all right to me. I'll try it and see, however, I can say that NONE of the other DLC I bought have JP, and they all work.

Update: out of curiosity, I went back and checked. It won't install on mine. I don't get a message. When I click install, it simply doesn't install. Restarting steam doesn't help either. I have an ATI radeon 5750 and dxdiag shows an approx total memory of 4070mb, so I should be okay, but I noticed that the 5750 is NOT on the list of approved graphics cards.

I can click "install" from the store menu, but the HD pack never installs.

However, I can confirm that I have almost every other DLC, and they all work fine.
