Sleeping Dogs will not Launch
Just purchased the game and I am constantly getting the following error:

Failed to start game (app already running).

Nothing seems to work. Has anyone else encountered this?

Good point. I'll look into it.

I have the same error and none of the solutions from Steam works... I´ve already done everything to try make it work, but no luck... I think I´ll just try to crack the game. At least I have it downloaded, so I´ll try this last option before just thinking I´ve spent the worst money of my life in this game.

Ive tried all the solutions provided in this forum as well as listed by Steam. I even had my CCC already updated to 13.1 before I bought the game. Nothing has worked yet for me. The worst part about it is that I contacted steam support after everything else failed and provided a full list of everything I had done to try getting the game to work before contacting them. I got a reply with the links for the exact same solutions that I just told them I tried.

This is the only game on steam I have ever had an issue with, and thats out of one hundred plus games. Im playing Borderlands 2 with no problems.

I just want a solution from steam, an acknowledgement that they dont know whats wrong or my money back in the form of steam credits.

Yeap... I was thinking of writting a new post in Sleeping Dogs forum with a compilation of all the fixes people have work out to solve the various problems launching the game. There are a LOTS of them. Neither worked for me, but it´s the least I can do since I can´t launch the game but have spent hours and hours researching the isues for three days and tried them all.. hahaha. It would good if some body could benefit from all the hours of my life invested trying to start this game.

I can confirm that the answer from steam support was pricesless and worthless in my case too. Incredible that this guys make a living of selling games with no refound politic and keep living of it...

Hey guys I might have the answer for somone of you. I know a lot of you guys have updated the drivers for your graphics cards, but there is an update you need to get for AMD Catalyst. Its a whole differend thing than drivers, I dont really understand it, but it fixed it for me. Go to www.ati.com. At the top right sidie of the site you will see somthing that says "Support & Drivers" mouse over it and fill in the information that applys to your system. From there it should take to you to a few downloads, download "Catalyst Software Suite" version 13.1 (should be the top download, release date: 1/17/2013). Once you have installed it just reboot your PC and vaula. This fixed my issue and I can now run Sleeping Dogs. Here is a direct copy of the link to the download that I used:

Thanks buddy. Finally got this game working after two months.
Glad the problem wasn't on my end but rather with CCC.

Not keeping your video card drivers up to date is a problem on your end.

Confirmed for not being able to read.

I'm also having this problem.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit,I double checked that I have the latest drivers for CCC (Version 13.1) on my ATI 4870, game just says HKship.exe has stopped working. No white screen or anything.

After quite a bit of research there doesn't seem to be a reliable fix for this, over at the Sqaure Enix forums, the mods there recommend the 12.11 Beta CCC driver...Haven't tried it yet, but I have a feeling it won't affect anything. I'll come back if it does though.

Does anyone know if a reliable fix for this is in the works, or did I just waste 9 bucks?

Samething for me all my other new games run really good and this won't even start I recently bought my pc 3 months ago

ATI users though that installing the last Catalyst version on their computers was the alltime fix. It seems a lot of guys didn´t bother to update drivers although it was the first recomendation to fix errors when launching this game (and others).

Well, I tried a multitude of possible fixes, including using various versions of CCC (12.11 Beta, 13.1, but not 13.2 Beta), Updated DirectX 11, Verifying game cache multiple times, none have worked, and the game still will not launch.

I guess we're just gonna have to wait for a patch =\

Upadte your motherboard drivers, it can somtimes be a problem of your nothboard communicating with the graphics card

Besides a BIOS update that allows for newer CPU's to be used, there's really nothing to update. on it...

So guys, you know what I did finally to make it work? Just blow your computer to the grown. I mean, take windows 7, install using CD as boot, format your HDD previously and do a clean intallation of windows. Do first all the updates of windows using Windows Update (took two days for me, lot of packages). Then (and after fully updating windows) )update drivers of motherboard, sound device, and graphic card. Install steam, start downloading Sleeping Dogs again and prey that it´ll run. Why do I say this? Because there is a point when you try every solution on the forums and just don´t get it to work and at that point you must be aware that you have to have DirectX 11 screwed. Even if DXDIAG says you have it alright. DirectX 11 can be not functioning right even if it seems to work ok because of two causes. 1, messing with it intalling and reintalling dxsetup, going back to previous versión, installing DirectX 9c apart, etc... can make the registry just go loco. 2, there is malware that affect DirectX logs and registry. And searching the issue, it seems there is no turning back at this point unless you have a restoration point of your registry that is clean or safe anough to make DirectX 11 work properly. I want to still make a post with the compilation of possibles fixes to the game and to explain this further, but know I´m going to play the game for a while, nothing says it can crash in two hour giving the troubles I had with it.
P.D: I do apologize for possible mistakes in my posts, english is not my native language.
