How the heck do you outrun the cops (on foot)

Just started playing the game and Im at the first time you have to outrun the cops on foot. No matter how many angles and alleyways I go down theyre stil the same distance away. And if I try to grapple and handcuff them its never enough time to get any distance. What am I missing?

I had the same problem you have to hit the space key repeatedly to get them off you everytime they tackle you. Trust me it works. I think i ended up car jacking someone on a bike to get away too.

Yeah, I can reverse grapple them whenever they tackle me. But there's always more than one and if you handcuff both, they escape in a short enough span of time that you can't get any distance from them on the feet. It's annoying to have to steal vehicle and ram them off the road instead of just outrunning them.

When you are going over obstacles, rapidly press [SPACE] and you will jump/vault/climb over the obstacles more quickly.
