Anyone else downloading a 1.8GB update?
If so, then oh joy, more DLC stuff I can't play or even buy, because the DLCs are forbidden in my country.
Why the hell do they keep doing this? Why does the game download stuff I can't even play?

EDIT: It's unbelievable how some people try to be smart here.

Devs can never do it right for everyone, boo-hoo.
Forcing downloads for something that isn't even purchasable for some people is just dumb and a slap in the face.
"Hey, you can't buy this, but install it anyway!"

Just turn off automatic updates.
Yeah and the next time I launch the game the update will get installed anyway, because Steam checks if the game is up-to-date, awesome logic there, pal.

Some of you guys totally don't know what they're talking about.

I'm actually grateful if they're giving these dlcs for free.
*facepalm*
They are NOT free.
The DLCs cost money man, they just give you the files that you can't use for free. Not an issue for me since I have unlimited bandwidth but I guess if I wanted to play the game while it was updating that might be a pain.

Welp, you've just given me the perfect time to start drinking this evening. Cheers.

I disabled the auto updates after the big one from last month.

I miss the good old days of NES and the Sega Genesis, where you just pop in the cartridge and BAM, hours of playtime. Instead, now we have hours of updates and patches...

I can't even get to play this now without downloading the update. Previously, I could go into off-line mode and Steam would let me play without the latest patch.

As I seem to have started this download in the past (but not even to 1%), it absolutely won't let me play even in off-line mode. I tried deleting the temp download files but no luck.

I shall keep an eye out on games from this publisher again and avoid if they use such as stupid model of pushing out dlc again (which I'll never buy).

Only reason I'm not complaining more is that I got this game for free with my GPU. Still, I won't be playing this tonight!

This game was expected to be a failure by Square Enix, its a good game and it did well so now they are trying to cram as much DLC as possible.

But all this DLC is being rushed out and causing problems, it once was a very stable game and now its crashing maybe 3-4 times per play-though, some of the DLC does not work at all.

It finally finished and my previous save won't load. It just stays at the loading screen.

Verifying the cache shows Steam needs to re-acquire a previous 2.4GB download.

Ridiculous!

Some of you are a just a little bit misinformed. This latest update mainly is about the latest 1.9 patch, and with the other one a week/2 prior, here's what they mainly included, which have not been just all about DLC installs or whatnot. Although there were some dlc related things that were included in them (pre setup for certain upcoming dlc compatibility, and some enhancements/additional features/nuances for preexisting packs, namely the law enforcement ones (ie PP, etc.) ), but its not only nor mainly what the patch updates were about and included, here:

Official Sleeping Dogs 1.9 Patch Release Notes -
• Potential fixes for vsync and fullscreen “stutter” performance issues
• Fixed an issue with stuttering and low-framerate at the start of a police chase
• New option in the displaysettings.xml to adjust the number of smoothing frames <TimeStepSmoothingFrames> (default 5)
---
From the previous Patch 1.8 last week/2 -
• Support for upcoming DLC packs including the Zodiac Tournament (the new island area)(Btw, here's a tip/trick, get a hold of and have gun on the island at any point and if you choose to, start firing away at a moderate rate and eventually you will alert the cops, and they will show up right on there with you, then you can have some free roam rogue cop battling if you want/choose. I suggest managing to grappling a cop while near certain areas to find/use special glowing things as well ;)
• Added the option to disable the in-world GPS arrows
• Various minor UI and gameplay fixes

The game update does seem to have helped/smoothed out performance for people who had previously reported some stuttering issues.
And additional thing I discovered which seems to have changed after these updates is now for me whenever you get into a vehicle with a siren, if you turn on any one of the 3 different sirens you can switch between, cars on the road will now react to them, and will slow/come to a stop, where the did not react at all before, a nice role/game play detail :)

Also, between this and the last patch update, there was fix released to help with the issue of the GSP and PP packs not showing up, its mainly applies to the copies of the game which included one or both of the said packs that came with it. All you need to do now is uninstall and then reinstall the free ghost pig pack and that hopefully/should take care of it.

I assume you are talking about console versions? PC version has no seperate installers

Yesterday the game downloaded a 4.1GB update for me. I played the game today, and after exiting the game it is now downloading another 4.1GB update. This is about the 4th-5th 4GB update I've had to download in the last few weeks. Is there something wrong with my copy or are other people experiencing this? I have no problems playing the game.
klebimon 26 DIC 2012 a las 22:31
@Agret edit* I think you're right, on pc it should have been an auto update

@The Duke The latest update should put your game at version 1.9, you can tell when you first start up the game it will say something like 'version 1.914331235'. If you have had something else to d'load, it might mean you just missed something as apart of the updates along the way and will install what your missing. We should all have the same number of update patches unless its been blocked.

Thanks for the reply kvleggo23. I'll have a look at the version next time I'm on.
