playing with controller but monitor keeps turning off.
I've been playing this game and loving it. i am using a 360 controller emulator so i don't know if that is the issue. if i don't move the mouse after a while my monitor turns off like it is supposed to do when idle but i am not while playing this game. is there a fix or should i just choose to not have the monitor turn off with this game.

Hmmmmmm. I have no clue. But... Maybe you should reinstall the game?

I have a similar problem. Screensaver kicks in after a few minutes of play.

i disabled my monitor from shutting off and now the screen saver kicks in so i disabled that as well. i don't know how to uninstall a steam game to reinstall it and not lost my game save. i might email the sleeping dogs people and ask them before trying a reinstall. zombie indected are you using a controller emulator or are you using a real 360 controller?

I tried my Logitech Controller - no emulator, just plugged it right in. And my PS3 controller with emulator. Same error - so I guess it's the game.

I use an actual 360 controller and I have 0 issues with this. Unfortunately the kb + m controls in this game are pretty clunky for fighting.

this is leading to think it has to do with not using a true 360 controller. i will email the sleeping dogs people and ask them whats up with this and post if they say anything relevant.

Your right... Its the game not liking controller emulator's that causes the problem. Reinstalling the game will not do anything. I had the same thing happening to me when I was using X360ce to get my old Logitech controller to work. I would just set the monitor to never turn off before I would start playing to get around it. I have installed this game many times after clean system install's and it was always the same, so dont bother reinstalling the game just to fix this problem.

I have now switched over to a xbox one controller and no longer get the problem at all.

just curious....are you running nvidia hardware? my drivers have been crashing like crazy lately causing that "black screen" while gaming
Jerm357 Jun 25, 2014 @ 9:36pm
I run AMD.
smooth_cannibal Jun 25, 2014 @ 9:42pm
I run a r9 280. I haven't had one crash at all with this game. just the issue with the screensaver/monitor is my only bugaboo with it.

I have had this game for a while so I had the chance to test it with a few different AMD cards over the years. The problem was there with my 6950, 270X and my current card, a 280X. I dont think the problem has anything to do with the card though.

sorry i don't have very much experience with AMD gpu's all i can say is my one trip to AMD land away from nvidia failed and my "upgrade" caused most of my games to stop working :/

well i emailed sqaure enix about this and they of course already got back to me with a terrible answer. first off they apologized for me having problems with my controller. not the game as i explained to them. i will just go with using a controller emulator as being the problem. also them telling me that only a 360 controller is compatible with windows (not even just the game) just pissed me off. i've been using my dual shock 2 with usb for 10 years. wasn't until i got back into gaming and found out all games now only really support a 360 controller which is annoying. the assasins creed games are the only one i don't have to do anything with. it works straight away without any fuss. i don't know why all games just can't be that way. i don't really like the 360 controller too much.

i picked up a logitech F310 a few years ago cuz my dual shock wasn't working for a lot of the newer pc games....it's got dual mode dinput and xinput so it's compatible with pretty much everything u throw at it....i don't like the MS 360 pad either the last time i played a console it was ps2 so this thing makes me really happy. check it out man 20 bucks on amazon best thing i ever bought for my computer

well cept for my EVGA GTX 550 Ti SC this thing's been a beast :D

The emulated controller is not registering keystroke/mouse-like activity because it doesn't need to most of the time. I assume the devs didn't account for Windows' Power Management APIs when porting the game in contrast to most of the other devs. This game is the only AAA game I encountered that fails in this regard. I use a program like Mousejiggler[mousejiggler.codeplex.com] as a workaround. The program is freeware and tiny. All it does is register mouse movement in the background to prevent screensavers/monitor turn offs from kicking in.

One could make a batch file to launch the game and mousejiggle and then quit the latter when the former finishes:

start /d "C:\Program Files\(x86)\MouseJiggler" mousejiggle.exe -j start /w steam://rungameid/202170 echo Press any key to kill MouseJiggle to re-enable screenlock pause TASKKILL /IM MouseJiggle.exe /t exit
