Game completely crashes my PC during cutscenes
Hey guys,
I know this game is crazy old now and I don't expect too many people to be reading these discussions any more but still, I thought I'd try.
My game is unplayable. It crashes randomly during cutscenes and it crashes so hard I have to hit the reset button on my case. I'm not trying to skip the scenes, just watch them.
Also, I got the Naz (is that his name?) bug in the very first mission where he stops running during the police chase.
It never crashes during gameplay (or at least, during the small amount of gameplay I have been able to experience), it is only during what I presume are pre-rendered cut scenes. For example, it crashed when I was in jail and met <that guy>. The few times I've made it through that cutscene, it crashed while I was talking to my police colleagues. Then after that it crashed when me and <that guy> walked into some place and met that guy's sister. (just before the fighting tutorial).
That is as far as I have got in the game with nearly 2 hours of play time.

All my graphics and windows drivers are up to date.
I have reinstalled and verified my game cache
I have tried with the HD texture pack on and off
I have tried with AA on normal, high and extreme.
I have tried disabling my second monitor.
I have tried using and not using a controller.

I am well over specs:
i5 4670K @ 3.4GHz
32gb of RAM
Some form of Radeon 7850
DX11
W7 64bit

any ideas??

i had a problem on my second go around with this game about a year ago. my problem was not exactly the same, but the way i fixed it was running DDU from guru3d.

i had some residual files and registry items from previous display drivers that apparently do not get deleted when you install a newer driver. if you are unlucky like me and some others, they sometimes will cause a conflict with the new driver and some weird things will happen.

are you running an AMD card or nVidia?

Find a copt of driver sweeper and look for any old drivers that may have been installed then clean out the garbage.

Have you overclocked any part of your hardware? If so, I would undo that as a starting point.

It is worth temprarily disabling your security software also to see if it is interfering with the game files as this could very easily cause this. Main culprits for this kind of interference would be AVG, Norton, McAfee etc.

After that, I would consider running a memory test to see if you have faulty RAM.

Hope you get it sorted.

I just looked up the card you mentioned. That card holds about 2GB of VRAM and some variants hold 1GB of VRAM. I went to GPUboss.com and compared it to a Geforce 970. Your's lost by a WIDE margin.

This game brings 2GB cards to their knees. Since both Nvidia and AMD are releasing their new cards. Grab an update for cheap and see how that works. Your card could be choking.
