But I'd say, it's worth the few moments of frustration. The game is great fun and most of the time, the controls aren't that much of an issue ;)
I use mouse and keyboard as well and I decided to fire it up again today and do another play through. I got my butt handed to me due to mistiming and what you decribe as "clunky" controls.
It's not as bad as you think it is. Like others mentioned, it just takes getting used to. After about 30 minutes into it, I got the hang of the controls again and was able to breeze through those first few fights.
It is a fun game once you get used to how the controls react and (If your from America or similar driving country) once you learn to drive on the wrong side of the road...lol
