Well at least it was cheap and I didn't waste money on extra choppers. I guess I was expecting a chopper game to allow me to fly in 3 dimensions. It is just a side scroller, where you can turn to face the foreground occasionally. The graphics are 3D. It is also easy to control as 2D considering the amount of shooting involved. If you like side-scrollers, that involve nearly constant shooting, then I do recommend it, you will probably be entertained for a few hours.

It is a 1:1 remake of a C64 Title :). I disagree on the wasted money part, but yeah, there is not much to it. Yet, I enjoy it. It is one of those retro games that not everyone likes. It is a bit rough around the edges too.
I grew up with Choplifter on the Master System so this was definitely not a disappointment to me :)
Interesting. I didn't realize it was a re-make. I could definitely see the nostalgia value.

It tells you ALL the details BEFORE you buy a game, including if it is side scroller or not. If you want a good and pretty decent 3-d style chopper game try Thunder Wolves. I have both, love Choplifter (old school arcade - home system fan) and Thunder Wolves plays awesome, good detail, voice acting. It is a steal of a deal too.

The ORIGINAL master system version is sweet. The arcade that came out AFTER the home versions is HIGHLY detailed, probably a true 16 bit game. If you can find the arcade or any version either emulate or buy them. Th Choplifter games are all pretty fun. So is Thunder Wolves. I wish they made more games like these. Or they remade the sega genesis versions of the Strike series that would be pretty damn awesome.

Not quite correct.
The original Choplifter is the 1982 Apple II release which was then ported to several Atari systems, Colecovision, VIC20 and the C64.
In 1985 Sega got the rights and created the Arcade Remake which was then first ported to the MSX, and then the Master System in 1986 (while Jaleco at the same time created their own version for the NES, based on the Sega Arcade version)

I'm also actually a bit shocked that some people don't even know Choplifter anymore...

srsly? With overheat mechanics and rescueing ppl and need to check fuel? I think that Choplifter is one of the most unconventional scrollers that exist.
I like the game and the only downside is that missions are not diverse enough (actually it's ok, as game is rather short, but I would like to have additional missions if they would present more diverse tasks, like first zombie mission, where you must protect hospital)
