Controllers not working?
I went to replay Revelations recently and noticed my controller was no longer being detected. It's an offbrand wired xbox 360 controller, but I never had issues with it before. Then I tried my Xbox One controller connected through usb and that doesn't work either. the issue only seems to effect AC1,2,Bro, and Revelations; all the later installments and other games in general work just fine with either one of my controllers.
The wierd thing is that the game detects that I have a controller plugged in, even the model of it, and it'll recognize certain inputs like joystick movement and pressing A, but it always shows PC buttons in all UI button prompts, and certain keys like the triggers outright don't work.
I pray I'm not the only one who has had these issues, and that someone has figured it out by now.

I just started a new game last night and had the same problem as well as flickering graphics. On August 17 there was a discussion named "Jumpy Camera". Basan explained the problem and suggested deleting (or renaming) a file but didn't say which file. Tiger199835 provided the following link:

https://www.ubisoft.com/en-au/help/assassins-creed-revelations/connectivity-and-performance/article/flickering-or-shaky-camera-on-windows-10-in-assassins-creed-revelations/000063457

I followed the directions and it fixed both my issues. Thanks to both Basan and Tiger199835.

I tried that fix and while it did fix the screen stuttering I was also having, the controllers are still messed up

the 360 one doesn't want to work at all and the xbone controller has messed up keymaps and always shows keyboard buttons

Maybe you've already done this, but in the options menu select controls, controller, customize controller and finally controller. Then scroll down and select the XBox 360 controller. You may have to have the controller plugged in when you start the game in order to make the XBox selection available.

yes, I've already done that. "Controller" is always the default option for me, in fact.

The only other thing I can think of is to go to your library and in the column on the left, right click on Revelations and select properties. In the general heading I deselected the allow Steam overlay and VR thingy boxes. Then check the controller heading to make sure the XBox controller is enabled. Again, you've probably already done all that, but that's all I got. Sorry if that's no help.

just tried it, still didn't fix it :(

Hey Fine, thanks for reaching out about this. Many thanks to Ratodoverto as well for sharing your insights!

I understand the troubleshooting you've tried already hasn't solved this, Fine - that's really unfortunate! As you'll know, we can't guarantee that third-party gamepads will be compatible with our games, but I've still got some ideas that might help.

Can you make sure you don't have any other unnecessary peripherals plugged in? This includes any other gamepads, flight sticks, or VR hardware. It has been observed that these other devices can interfere with a game's gamepad detection, so please (at least temporarily, for testing) disconnect them.

Please also see the troubleshooting guide[ubi.li]. In particular from the guide, please make sure you are running the game with administrator rights, you've verified the game files, you've got your Windows install fully updated, and you've (at least temporarily, for testing) deactivated all background programs (particularly any rebinding or hotkey programs).

If none of that works, a workaround I've had a lot of success with is using Steam's Big Picture Mode to essentially fake an official Xbox gamepad in the settings. Here's Steam's Big Picture Mode guide to help with that. Since this isn't an official bit of support we give, I'm limited on what specifics I can share about this sort of workaround, but Steam themselves may be able to give further insight if needed.

Let me know if I can further clarify any of these steps, or if you've any other questions :steamhappy:

the issue isn't just with third party controllers, my official xbox one controller has the same problem.
admin mode didn't fix it.
disabling background programs didn't fix it.
windows is fully updated.
I don't have any other "peripherals" whatsoever.

Hey Fine,

Apologies for the delayed response!

How are you getting on?

If you're still having issues, may we please know if you're using a wired or wireless controller?

As a wired connection is advised.

Apologies for missing that.

Have you checked your Steam settings too?

If you go to Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings > Toggle Xbox Configuration Support On / Off and let us know there's any changes at all.

Thank you!

Heya Fine, thanks for coming back to us about this. Sorry to hear our troubleshooting hasn't helped!

I understand your Xbox One gamepad hasn't worked either. To be clear, the only gamepad we've fully tested and specifically recommend for Revelations is the Xbox 360 gamepad - we've got that one listed in the system requirements.

At this point, we've exhausted such troubleshooting as we'd usually recommend. It's possible that we may have been able to suggest some more specific troubleshooting after a look at your system files, over on our support website - if you'd like to go ahead with that process, I can recommend our system files support article[ubi.li].

However, in this situation, I'd personally have gone for workarounds such as using Steam's Big Picture Mode to fake an official 360 pad out of your offbrand one, or similar methods of emulating the gamepad we specifically recommend. Again, to be clear, this isn't officially what we recommend, so I'm unable to give specific instructions, and I can't guarantee it'll work. Other members of the community may be able to give further insights, and there's the system files process I'd mentioned above as well for further official support.

Let me know if I can further clarify any of this!

When your xbox one controller is not working or connecting you just have to go to your documents folder, then go to the assassin creed revelations folder, open the ACRevelations doc with notepad, find SelectedInput , delete keyboardmouse2 after =, and paste USB RECEIVER and save THIS WORKED FOR MY XBOX ONE WIRED CONTROLLER
