How to expand map

Do you expand the ingame singleplayer map by collecting fragments or buying stores? Because as of right now my map is small and im running around blank areas. I know im a bit late to the party

Generally in AC games, synchronizing with viewpoints should reveal chunks of the map (which will hold other viewpoints you can sync with, so you can gradually expand your map). I don't remember if these have icons on the map, but they're usually at the tops of high towers, often on significant buildings. Look for ledges like this[www.gamerguides.com], go to their tip, and hit the button for syncing when the prompt pops up.

If you've arrived to Constantinople already, there's one viewpoint at the top of Galata tower that I can remember for example, you should be able to access that early, so you might be able to start from there. There are definitely some viewpoints in templar dens too (maybe all of them?), and since liberating those dens means climbing to the tops of their towers (like the one in the linked pic), that'll get chunks revealed too.

If you've already been doing these things and the areas around of the viewpoints aren't clearing up, that might be a bug, I think.

edit: I think they might have an eagle icon on the map? But I haven't found a map screenshot with one yet.

I see there is some part of the city behind a big wall in the south, but I need to explore a bit more to see how to actually get in... although I think I first have to progress more in the game... But yes, map seems rather small comparing it to AC2 and AC Brotherhood.

About buying stores and finding fragments, they have nothing to do with the map size. If you go to all the viewpoints, as our friend #bananasloth said before, you should be able to see everything.
