How do you deploy a parachute?

I was under the impression that parachutes are items you can use in this game when you jump off of a high building or platform to help cushion your fall and avoid taking damage.

I'm about to beat the game and throughout my entire playthrough, I've not yet figured out how to deploy one. I've bought all the upgraded parachute pouches and stuff, but I can't figure out how to use one.

I use keyboard and mouse. Is there a button or something?
