Quicktime events
So sure, this game is mostly quicktime events but I feel that what it is was worth my $7. The issue I have is that the quicktime events are so unintuitive and unforgiving. I'm using keyboard and mouse and I generally have to repeat scenes several times due to how akward the QTEs are. The game likes to queue up several button presses in rapid succession with no indication of what the later required buttons will be until the earlier ones are pressed, it then gives you insufficient time to recognize the new required buttons and deems it a failed event. Has anyone else managed to decode whatever arcane logic is required to successfully complete this game rather than just blunder through it?

I think it's just trial and error and luck. I noticed that sometimes the game would just kind of glitch and say that I failed a sequence before it even gave me a chance to try. lol That only happened about 5-10% of the time though from my first few hours.

you have to be using a controller to enjoy the QTE's, ditch the keyboard, you dont need a powergaming rig to use a controller, even laptops work with them. Like any modern game, keyboards are from like the 1970's, games today are better with more modern equipment, maybe try it with a used controller so if you do not like the game with controller you can return it. Its best to do what is you are comfortable with, switching to a controller can be very taxing since its much different than a keyboard and mouse.

I'm enjoying the game! I hope you can get you're money worth!

@ bridgetfisher: Keyboards are not modern equipment...are you joking? Gamepads were out in the 1970's too so that arguement is not valid. Regardless, it isn't even an excuse for such broken gamplay.

I loved the clicky immersion and even some of the QTE's because it reminded me of games I played when I was a kid (Ocean's Below and Amazon Trail and Jurrasic Park on sega genesis), but that nice feeling wore off rather quickly after I got to the dilphosaurus scene with the jeep. Even simple combos like DOWN LEFT were close to impossible to get correct without memorizing and dying a few times. Oh, and if you do not have the reaction time of a ninja on crack, you die. Why not add in difficulty settings or a simple option like EZ-MODE QTEs so that I can play this game for the story or w/e.

I agree with the the OP. If they didn't do such a terrible job with the QTE's (ESPECIALLY THE COMBOS), the game might have been more sucuessful. I'm a hardcore JP fan, and I still could only endure an hour of gameplay before developing a headache. Such a shame.

+1 Agree!

I'm convinced that certain QTE's are just plain broken. I don't have any trouble for most of the game, but certain scenes - like any involving dilophosaurs - are just barely passable. Even after memorizing the combos, it's completely hit or miss as to whether or not the game actually registers them.

As another example, I've tried no less than 20 times to get the "Boneshaker" achievement (perfect completion of the Boneshaker sequence) without success because of this. I can complete the entire sequence with a perfect gold rating, no problem, all the way up until literally the last QTE, which always drops me to a silver ranking no matter what I do. Whether I press the required combo fast, slow, start early, start late, or just mash them, the second I press any button it immediately drops my rank to silver before I can hit the next one.

Very frustrating for sure.

They really messed up on the QTEs in this game. I'm glad they've learned how to properly implement them with their future games. I recently played The Wolf Among Us and beat it with no difficulties. It was a great ride. Still trying to work my way through this one.

Absolutely! Also did you not find that some of the QTE in episode 3 got just so ludicrous that you spent the entire time just watching them on the screen, (repeating them....)*without* even seeing what was going on behind them?
That is the sign when the devs have broken the game, when the player just watches on screen promps....sod the actual story behind them... shame
