They ran out of time and had to cut planned and promised features a month before the release in order for the game to work properly.
There are a number of really good custom made maps for the game too at Trescom.org.
If you can find a copy online for a decent price and can get used to the controls it's worth it.
Unfortunately, considering the game was published by EA, I doubt they'll go through the trouble of selling the game online for the little money it will possibly generate.
Keep in mind that the game only sold 50.000 copies at launch, and by now it already has a pretty bad reputation.
It's physics system on the other hand is amazingly terrible.
