Wolfenstein: The New Order

wasn't worth the $20
Finally ground true to the end. From a mechanical view the game is very very good, I ran it maxed out on my two year old Win 8.1 machine and didn't have a single issue. Maybe it's that I've become used to playing open world games (Fallout, Elder Scrolls), but the game felt really one dimentional. Id made all these fantastic places and all you see is a few rooms going by in a blaze of gunfire. And then theirs the player chacter....

I kind of know what you mean, I have only played it for 11 hours. Once finished I am just not that bothered about replaying it. Vs over 1000hrs in skyrim.

However I did have fun for the 11 hours, so I think it was worth the sale price, I am glad I did not pay full price though.

Return to Castle Woflenstein destroys this game in every way - a classic. NO was a huge disappointment to me. It was just:

Go to x along a uber linear path and press E, shooting some Nazis along the way.

The health/armor pickups were a nice nod to old games but this was so CoDified its a joke.

Graphics were quite horrible in places too - things in the far distance (moon landscape/ Berlin buildings etc) looked like 30kb jpegs - awful.

The game is easily worth $20 and then some. Don't make a blanket statement just because it didn't suit your taste.

I've been pleasantly surprised after the first couple of hours of incredibly generic fps at least the plot has opened up a little and the cutscenes - which I usually hate - are good quality. 6 hours in so far.

I paid around £18 - maybe $25 - for it and I guess it will have been worth it.

Disagree. One of the best fps games I've ever played. Yes it was linear but the progression was fun.

am i the only one who thinks Skyrim is ♥♥♥♥?

this game is great, for anyone who can admire old school classics. The newage kids who have no less than 10 second attention spans and need to have the open world BS to satisfy thier gaming tastes, there is no reason for them to get this at all. This game was meant for us old school gamers and I appreciate all they did for us. Keep up the great work Machine Games!!

Just finished it the 2nd time (über difficulty), and while the plot is dull (I would rather have no plot at all than this to be honest) and I can't stand the characters, the actual gameplay is solid. Weapons are whacky, there's good enemy variety and a solid artistic consistency. If I have to pick one flaw I'd point out the completely absurd "choice & consequence" they shoved to the game. The sole purpose of it is to increase replayability. It's not a choice and it really doesn't affect gameplay at all (so it doesn't have consequences either).

Not sure which one is the best FPS released lately: Wolfenstein The New Order, Shadow Warrior, Darkness 2 or Call of Duty: Ghost (a joke. in b4 flamewar).

Totally was worth 16,99€

This is the best game I played this year. I got it for 20 and it's easily worth 60.

I think FPS games are for the shorter atention span. Run shoot run some more doesn't take much thinking or planning.

the point is, yes it might be linear and not take much planning and thinking but if you have played any classics like Doom, Wolfenstein and Quake those games have withstood the test of time because of how great they are. The game is so basic and because of those qualities that is what makes it fun. Overpowered health, over the top guns and cheesy lines. This game brings back the best of FPS, not sit and wait behind a corner for health to regen or quicktime events with constant button mashing. It is a simple FPS at heart, over the top everything. For the pure fun and entertainment aspects I can say that it's a great game. We all have different opinions stemming from different times, but in my opinion and probably many others we can say that it's a very enjoyable experience, it's a great refreshment to the genre. Rehashed COD and BF games are boring, and just because it doesn't share the same elements of the newer games doesn't make it less viable of a game.

Im not really sure why youre bringing the age of gamers into this, I played 3D first time round, but that still doesnt leave me feeling anything but disapointed by this iteration. I got excited first time I killed Mecha-Hitler and I got excited when I hit the bridge level in RTCW, but this, I just keep waiting for it to start.
The games you mention were limited because of hardware, im enjoying the abilty to look up and down, I dont want to go back to not looking up and down just because I remember 3D fondly, same way I dont want to play Pong forever.
I really did try to like this game because of the history, but I just keep having a meh feeling as every level passes. I just went down in a submarine, didnt care. I do hope I can go looking for some moldy concrete again, that was fun.

Edit: I should also add that the AI is as dumb as a bag of spanners.

Yep age has not much to do with it. I was gaming from the days of the commodore 64, so caught wolf/doom the first time round, replayed them loads. I even replayed duke nukem forever at least twice all the way through (and a few more times to the bar scene :p )

There just seems something missing with this, can't put my finger on it, I enjoyed it through the first time, just have no inclination to play it again, I am sure many people replay this, but for me its just not quite right for some reason, i kind of played it to finish the storyline and see what happened, more than enjoying the game itself.

I just finished the game for the first time and I felt it was like... a 7.5/8. Now, I must admit I am just a 19 year old kid who was addicted to CoD and BF from the 9th to the 11th grade, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy DOOM as much as my Dad did. I still boot up Doom quite a lot (with the Brutal Doom mod, if you don't know it stop reading this and go play it ;D ). My quirks with the game were that it was so praised as the shooter of the last couple of years and yet I found it just "good". I found the characters a bit emotionless and bland, I got a bit emotional with the usual Nazi "purging Earth for the master race" and all, but aside from that all that was left was the gameplay for me. Oh, and in my opinion, Machine Games could release some creation tools for player made maps and levels, because one of the great things about Doom is it's immense supply of fan made .wads . Again, this is just my opinion and I might be biased due to being one of "dem kidz who grew up with modern military shooters"
