With that said, nothing in New Order directly contradicts events of Wolfenstein 09 and it directly talks about being a follow up. So, its kind of a sequel to Wolfenstein 09 while its part reboot of Return to Castle Wolfenstein and part sequel. Its definitely a reboot in sense of tone. Previous Wolfenstein games felt more like matinee adventures... Indiana Jones... The Mummy while New Order is much darker and more serious in tone... a bit more Quentin Terrentino meets Schindler's List. Personally I prefer the older tone.
Bit complicated isn't it?
If you are asking because you want to know if you should play the previous games before this one then no, you do not need any prior knowledge of Wolfenstein to play this game. You can always watch a YouTube video of cutscenes from RtCW and Wolf 09 so you'll understand certain characters better. Deathshead has been the antagonist in both RtCW & Wolf 09 and Caroline Becker was a major character in Wolfenstein 09. Other than them and BJ himself all the characters are brand new.
Oh thank you! I couldn't find any copies of Wolfenstein 09. I was worried that I missed a large chunk of the story. Thank you! Now I can buy this game without missing anything.

In particular, the event at 12:20 is directly referenced in New Order, as is the stinger at 22:03.
Can the medallion stop time or something?
Thank you for the cinematics. Which Wolfenstein is better? 2009 or New Order?
Personally had more fun with Wolfenstein 2009, but I'm in the minority of that one. Most people seem to love the story, but I just didn't get into it and thats a big problem considering how focused on story it is.
