The first few hours are a Tutorial. So it is quite Linear. The turret sections almost made me scream but soon the game stops all that tihs and gives you much more freedom.

There are some areas that allow you to find varied routes, however, I just finished it a few seconds ago, and this game is probably in my top 10 of all time as I loved the first one as a kid and they really knocked out of the park.

Keep playing, you'll love it after a bit!

Far less linear than tomb raider or fc3 campaign ill give you that.

Its a mixture really some sections are linear other sections let you got stealth or action. There are alot of secrets to find in the levels.

so basicly your all saying its part liniar, part open, i'll continue with it awhile and see how it goes, think i'm learning a lesson here, as i love open world, if it doesnt say open world in the description then dont buy it lol

I would say it is entirely linear, but if you get used to the idea that's how this game was designed and play it, it's good.

It's linear for sure. This isn't an open world game. The first 3 chapters just follow the story and take you with them. Then you're put in a place where you can sort of take your time before moving on and do some small side missions but nothing serious (though there is one great little mini game I won't spoil). But, this is a traditional single player shooter.

That said, I've been playing shooters for ages and honestly, I don't mind it when there's an interesting mix of environments, goals, and enemies to fight and so far (at chapter 12 now so almost done) it's been a fun ride.

There have been opportunities to do some side missions that I missed (I keep missing the "exit level" tooltip and leaving before I'm done) but otherwise, GTA this is not.

Quite linear with only a few spots where you aren't going down a set path.
Seaperson Sep 26, 2014 @ 9:29pm
i loved every second of it and if linear is done right its really good like this was. there are not that many non linear games that i can think of. alot give the illusion of a open world but are just linear at heart. its the story that keeps you playing a game. so if hte story is good then you will keep playing.

edit dont say but all elder scrolls, farcry, just cause, GTA and saints row games are not liear cause i know this i just said there are more linear than non linear buy a very large margin.

There's something to be said about a linear shooter that gives you just enough latitude to approach a problem from a couple directions (in some cases) and yet puts together a great story. I love open world games and coming up with crazy solutions for a problem and all but once in a while, it doesn't hurt to have something "curated" that pulls it off well. If it had a terrible story or was just so linear you HAD to do everything exactly the same way every time, then I'd agree it's a problem.

I stealthed my way through much of the game (at least where it let you) which was great fun. But I can see parts where you can just go in guns blazing and still enjoy it (especially with the shotty in close quarters). In some cases I did just go guns blazing. Granted, I may be biased. I started playing shooters when they all were linear so in a way there's a bit of nostalgia going on here for me at least. :)

Less linear than metro LL as well.

The term linear is in my opinion a very vaigue thing cause so many people have different interpretations on what they consider linear and what isn't. As for if the game is linear, it has a linear story telling but with a large area for you to determine how you play the game

I dont own the game yet, but srsly. Wolfenstein title has been around for around 20 years and you expected skyrim? Wolfenstein was always linear with „half open" missions.

I didnt expect anything, ive played skyrim, i wasnt comparing this game to any game, it was a simple question, i have no idea why your attitude to my question !!

Yeah, not everyone's played Wolfenstein or early shooters. Some of us are old enough to know but not everyone. :)
