Wolfenstein: The New Order

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Texture Cache Directory: Needs to be created
Just like Rage, NWO fails to write its own texture cache directory.

The config variable is fs_cachepath. You can call up the console with CTRL ALT ` to check where NWO wants this folder to be created.
It should be under your AppData\Local\MachineGames\Wolfenstein The New Order\

If this directory does not exist, create it. The iDTech5 engine will write a texture cache to hold the recently used/converted texture pages in. This will help some of the stuttering provided your drive is decently quick.

Credit goes to hazardd for testing things out for me in-game (since I don't own NWO yet) and figuring out the proper directory needed.

All other config tweaks from Rage should apply. I had the most success reducing pop-in tweaking the vt_maxPFF variable in Rage, and I assume the same holds true here.

Thanks to Dreadmoth for the below:

So what if you don't have an AppData folder? Should you create it and its sub folders for the game?

If you're on WinVista, Win7, or Win8, you have an AppData folder. It is merely hidden.

Turn on "Show Hidden files/folders/drives" and uncheck "hide protected operating system files" in Explorer's options and you'll be able to see it.

And yes, create the folder hierarchy below AppData\Local\ so that the game can write its texture cache.

You have one, type this in explorer: %USERPROFILE%\AppData

Yeah, somehow my settings got reset and Win7 Defaulted to "Don't Show Hidden Folders" got it all squared away, I did have to make a cache folder for the game.

So far the only issue I am having is horizontal screen tearing :(

VSync, turn it on. And leave it on for all games.

EDIT: In NVidia/AMD CP.

Still seem to have some issues with it, even when forced on by console and off by game. I limited screen to 59 just to be sure....

In any case, I have a feeling a lot of people see texture pop-in if this cache folder isn't there. I don't seem to have that issue.

You can also set your own cache folder location (eg. if you want to save space on C drive) by adding something like this to the game's launch options:

Yes. I recommend setting your cache location to your SSD, or at the very least, to a different, fast drive from the one that Wolf is installed on, as having the texture library and texture cache on the same drive will likely result in a huge bottle-neck and severe pop-in.

Sad to say this didnt solve my problem. Still getting a stuttering problem, although it happens at totally random times it seems, while other spots do it 100% of the time.

Just wanted to comment and say thank you for this. It solved a couple of the issues I was having.
I don't have "MachineGames" folder in "AppData"[prntscr.com] tho the console clearly states it's cache folder should be there. http://i.imgur.com/cKl0uou.jpg
Any ideas?

You have to create it manually.
