Might as well have bought digital[twbrtq.dm2303.livefilestore.com]
Someday I wish this to come to past. Downloading is becoming a dial up issue. It should be "wtf is downloading"
Thanks for the info persPaladin. Tried it but unfortunately no go. It has started downloading that 10Gb as per before. Good luck with the game mate, sadly I will have to go without.
Yeah it isn't right. Valve's/Steam's installer is buggered. When you enter the code from the DVD, Steam immediately begins downloading the 40.7GB install in the background. Then your installation from the DVDs "appears" to proceed normally, but after DVD 4 is done, you get to wait for however much of the 40.7GB is left to download and Steam appears to discard your installation from the physical media. This is absolute rubbish and completely screws over those of us that purchased physical media rather than the digital download. My view is that it shouldn't be some kind of huge deal to put a fix in their installer that stops the downloading automatically if you are installing locally. The fix I link to in the thread does apparently work sometimes or for some people - (I haven't tried it as by the time I became aware of it, I only had about 1GB left to d/l) but we shouldn't have to do tricks like that to get physical media to install. Like I said earlier, I specifically purchased physical media to avoid the download. At the time I purchased this title I was on a 50GB internet plan, and this would have easily pushed me right over. I was merely "lucky" that I had upgraded my plan in the interim between purchase and install. Even so, I don't appreciate Steam wasting my time and bandwidth to download a title I have on DVD.
Well I plan on posting about it on their Twitter and Facebook accounts at least.
